AN INTRODUCTORY COURSE IN THE DESIGN AND USE OF THE ADVANCED LIGHTWIRE FUNCTIONAL ~ THE A.L.F. APPLIANCE ~ On Day 1 Dr. Strokon discusses the concept of the A.L.F. appliance and the importance of understanding cranial movement as it applies to dentistry. The principal variations in the morphology and function of the skull and face are described and their effect on malocclusion is demonstrated. The lecturer uses clinical evidence to illustrate these variations and how they can be modified by the A.L.F. appliance. You will discover how a rationale for parafunctional movement has been developed as a result of this approach. On Day 2 Dr. Strokon examines relevant diagnostic techniques and explains the correlation of chairside findings with radiographic and articulator-derived information. The greater part of the day is devoted to the A.L.F. appliance design and its clinical application. The insertion of the appliance and its adjustments are demonstrated. Particular attention is given to the bio-compatible properties of the A.L.F. and its relevance to current, low-force orthodontics. THE SPEAKER, DENNIS STROKON B.S., D.D.S. Dr. Dennis Strokon has used orthopaedic and orthodontic techniques for many years in conjunction with his advanced restorative practice. He now uses the A.L.F. appliance extensively in his practice. He finds the concepts involved in diagnosis of cranial based problems apply equally to restorative and temporomandibular procedures as well as to orthodontics. Dr. Strokon has studied with the dental pioneers in the field of functional cranio-anatomy and physiology and owes a great deal of his knowledge of A.L.F. treatment to Dr. Darick Nordstrom who originated the A.L.F. concept. The entire focus of his practice has changed from using a conventional approach to a more specific individual treatment utilizing A.L.F. principles. Dr. Strokon works closely with therapists who have cranial skills. Together with Dr. Gavin James, Dr. Strokon co-authored nine articles on Cranial Movement and its relationship to malocclusion. The articles appeared in three dental journals and were awarded Honourable Mention-Golden Pen by the International College of Dentists, USA Section. Dr. Strokon has lectured to several groups of dentists and osteopaths in Canada, U.S.A. and the U.K. This seminar is sponsored by the American Academy of Gnathologic Orthopedics (AAGO) and Orthodontic Forum Study Club, recognized by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario Continuing Education Committee for 12 Credits REGISTRATION: NAME BUSINESS TELEPHONE (please print) ADDRESS HOME TELEPHONE E-MAIL TUITION: A) Dentists, dental technicians, tuition is $1000.00 Canadian or U.S. Funds (Course-1 Manual included) B) Dental assistants, physiotherapists, osteopaths, repeat attendees tuition is $900.00 (Manual not included) Cheques or money orders, payable to: Cranialign Inc. 95 – 15715 34th Ave., Surrey, B.C.
