PHYSICS CP
1
Physics is an inquiry based course designed to expand on the principles of how and why the world around us works and find practical
applications of physics through laboratories, data analysis, problem solving, and discussions. Students will investigate the topics of
motion, force, energy, electricity, magnetism, waves, sound and light.

PHYSICS PRE-AP
1
Pre-AP Physics is NOT a prerequisite for AP Physics, but is designed to prepare students for college physics. This course integrates much of
the math learned in Geometry and Algebra II giving the serious science student an opportunity to delve into various Physics concepts. This Prerequisite: B or higher in Algebra II and Geometry
course is recommended for college bound students considering a career in medicine, physical therapy, vetenary medicine or engineering.

AP PHYSICS
1
This course is a college level, mathematically-based, laboratory-oriented course. The primary responsibility is to prepare students for the
national AP Physics I and/or II test or the SAT Physics Subject Test. Dual credit may be given at OCTC classes PHY 201/PHY 203 and PHY
202/PHY 204 to students that have met the acceptance requirements of OCTC (extra fees may be incurred).
Prerequisite: Simultaneous with Pre-Calculus or Calculus, or
teacher recommendation.

AP PHYSICS C – MECHANICS,
ELECTRICITY, AND MAGNETISM
1
There are two AP Physics C courses — Physics C: Mechanics and Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism, each corresponding to
approximately a semester of college work. Mechanics is taught first. Both courses utilize guided inquiry and student-centered learning to
foster the development of critical thinking skills and use introductory differential and integral calculus throughout the course. Physics CPrerequisite: Either have taken Calculus or be willing to take a
Mechanics provides instruction in each of the following six content areas: Kinematics; Newton's laws of motion; work, energy, and power;
free on-line Calculus course administered by Mr. Dunn over the
systems of particles and linear momentum; circular motion and rotation; and oscillations and gravitation. Physics C- Electricity and
summer.
Magnetism provides instruction in each of the following five content areas: electrostatics; conductors, capacitors and dielectrics; electric
circuits; magnetic fields; and electromagnetism. Dual college credit may be given at OCTC to students meeting acceptance requirements
to OCTC (extra fees may be incurred).
