Demonstration lesson plan for mathematics

At the end of the lesson, the students with 75% proficiency should be able
to:
a. determine whether two lines are parallel,
b. identify angle relationships in parallel lines cut by a transversal,
c. and show enthusiasm in performing assigned task.

Presentation: Angles formed by parallel lines

transversal
Parallel Lines- are lines in a plane which do not meet; that is,
two lines in a plane that do not intersect or touch each other at any
point are said to be parallel.
Transversal- is a line that intersects two or more lines (in the same
plane). When lines intersect, angles are formed in several locations.
Example: Nadia likes to practice for
gymnastic
competitions
on
the
balance beam at the park. She
knows she will be scored on the
angles of her legs and arms while
balancing on the beam.
When two parallel lines are given, there are two main areas:
 Interior Angles. Any four angles formed inside two straight

lines when these lines are intersected by a third straight line.
Exterior angles. Any four angles formed Outside two straight
lines when these lines are intersected by a third straight line.
If a transversal
intersects parallel lines….
 Corresponding Angles. Any pair of angles each of which is on the same side of
one of two lines cut by a transversal and on the same side of the transversal.
Corresponding angles are congruent.

Alternate interior angles. The pairs of angles on opposite sides of the

transversal but inside the two lines. Alternate interior angles are congruent.

Alternate exterior angles. The pairs of angles on opposite sides of the

transversal but outside the two lines. Alternate exterior angles are congruent.

Consecutive interior angles. defined as two interior angles lying on the same
side of the transversal cutting across two parallel lines. Consecutive interior

angles are supplementary.

Consecutive exterior angles. defined as two exterior angles lying on the same
side

transversal

lines.
Consecutive exterior angles are supplementary.

c. Abstraction
1. Do parallel have to be horizontal?
2. If non- parallel lines cut by a transversal are the corresponding angles will be equal?
3. How are you going to determine which angles are congruent when parallel lines are
intersected by a transversal?
d. Application
Use the map below to determine pairs of person that are on street corners with
Corresponding Angles, Alternate Interior Angles, Alternate Exterior Angles, vertical angles,
consecutive interior angles and consecutive exterior angles. Fill the pairs into the table under
the appropriate heading.
