PRESS RELEASE Wednesday 20 May 2009 at 20.30 Benaki Museum Piraeus Street CONCERT DEDICATED TO THE INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY The World Heritage & Museums (World Cultural Heritage & Museums), organises classical music concert on the occasion of the celebration of International Museum Day at the Benaki Museum Piraeus Street, No. 138, Wednesday 20 May 2009 at 20.30, with Tobias String Quartet from Estonia and the internationally awardwinning soloist Greek clarinetist Dionissis Grammenos. The event is organised with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Estonia, the Embassy of Estonia in Greece and the Association of Estonian Professional Musicians. The concert program includes the quintet for clarinet and strings of Carl Maria von Weber, and Josef Haydn, and works of the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt. The event will present Alexis Kostalas. DIONYSIS GRAMMENOS, clarinet In May 2008, at the age of 18, representing Greece and won the A 'prize in international contest Eurovision Young Musicians 2008, partnership as a soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of Vienna distinction awarded to a first horn, in the history of the competition . Since then has played as soloist with the State Orchestra of Greece, and the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Norway, the Symphony Orchestra of Radio and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Sofia, and collaborates with chamber music ensembles in Greece and in abroad. The immediate projects include collaboration with Mozart Quartett Salzburg and Tobias String Quartet, on tour in Japan in December 2009, while for 2010 and 2011, the program provides kontserta in Sweden by the Nordic Chamber Orchestra ensembles and Swedish Wind Ensemble, under the address of Christian Lindberg, participation in the cycle «international awards Soloist» held in Vienna, in partnership with the Orchestra of Vienna (Wiener Kammer Orchester), participation in the Young Soloist cycle organised by the Auditorium du Louvre (Paris) and cooperation with music ensembles Room Berliner Philharmonia Quartett and Borodin Quartet. In March 2009, appeared as soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of Athens, Spain, Auditorio Nacional de Musica de Madrid, the presence of Queen Sofia of Spain. In June 2008, was honoured with a Gold plaque from the Mayor of Athens Nikitas Kaklamanis, and, since September 2008, is a member of the Symphonic Orchestra of Athens. TOBIAS STRING QUARTET Arvo Leibur - violin, Kristjan Hallik - violin, Toomas Nestor - viola, Aare Tammesalu - cello The Tobias String Quartet was founded in 2000 by leading musicians of the Estonian State Band Festival and was named by Rudolf Tobias, the first Estonian composer who wrote the work for string quartet. Since its foundation, is rich in activities both inside and outside Estonia (in Stockholm, Berlin, Helsinki, Riga and St. Petersburg) and has recorded with the German company Erdenklang, in cooperation with the Estonian Record Production. The Tobias String Quartet has also recorded with the Estonian Radio. The repertoire of the quartet includes masterpieces of the world’s quartet literature and Estonian music also has an important part in it.
