Suresmile Featured on
Good Morning America
On October 9, 2008, the robotic technology
used by Dr. Snyder was featured on Good
Morning America (GMA). In the program,
GMA reporters Sharyn Alfonsi and Cathy
Becker examine the background of this new
and exciting technology. Using Marcia Brady
as an example, GMA looks into the social
stigmas attached to having braces. Because of
technology like Suresmile, GMA says that
kids today are not liable to experience the
same horrors that Marcia did back in the 70's.
Suresmile's promise is twofold: To cut treatment time in half and to make the experience a
lot less painful. They argue that Suresmile is
the future of orthodontics because of the
teenagers. With an average procedure time of
just 9 months, GMA believes that fewer and
fewer teenagers are going to opt for the
orthodontia of the 20th century. Suresmile
truly is 21st century orthodontics.
After such a positive presentation, it is easy to
be optimistic about the future of Suresmile and
the future of Snyder Orthodontics, who
introduced this innovative system to the state
of Minnesota in 2003.

What Does it
Mean to be
Board Certified?
You might have heard that Dr. Snyder recently finished his first year
as an examiner for the American Board of Orthodontics.
What is an examiner?
An orthodontist is a dentist who has completed an
American Dental Association accredited graduate
program in the specialty of orthodontics. Once a
certified orthodontist, board certification is possible
through the voluntary examination process of the
American Board of Orthodontics (ABO). Involvement
in the certification process is a demonstration of the
orthodontist's pursuit of continued proficiency and
excellence.
The certification process involves a thorough written
examination covering all areas of information on
which an orthodontist should be knowledgeable.
Successful passage allows the orthodontist to present
treated cases which will be evaluated by expert
examiners of the Board during a Clinical Examination.
Certification is now awarded for a time-limited period
and the orthodontist must re-examine on a periodic
basis to retain the board certified status.
Dr. Snyder is also president of
the Midwest Angle Society.
What is the
Angle Society?
The Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists (EHASO)
grew out of a distinguished Angle School alumni organization begun in 1922. The members were dedicated to Dr.
Angle's goals of excellence and progress in the art and
science of orthodontics. In 1930, The Angle Orthodontist
was inaugurated by the Angle Society as a means of
furthering these aims.
Today, EHASO is a global society which adheres to its
founding traditions. Membership, drawn from the entire
community of orthodontists, consists of men and women
identified as able and willing contributors to the advancement of orthodontics. Orthodontists with these qualities are
invited into the membership process at the regional
Component level.
The Angle Society presently has over 660 members,
distributed in seven Component Societies (approximately
five percent of North American orthodontists and more
than 70 orthodontists from countries outside North
America). Each Component meets regularly for scientific
sessions and for fellowship. The seven components
convene every other year for an International Biennial
meeting, providing an opportunity for the entire
membership to study and discuss some of the most
important orthodontic advances from that period.

Braces-Friendly
Ingredients:
Michael Chiarello of the Food Network
provides two braces-friendly recipes:
- a delicious main dish
and scrumptious dessert!
3/4 pound spaghetti or spaghetti
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil,
MAIN DISH
plus more for drizzling
1/4 cup sliced garlic
1/2 teaspoon finely minced Calabrian
Pasta Pomodorini
chilies, or 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 pint small cherry tomatoes,
Directions:
stems removed, crushed between your thumb
and forefinger
Sea salt, preferably gray salt
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil
1/2 cup fresh basil leaves,
over high heat. Add the pasta. While the
each torn into 2 or 3 pieces
pasta cooks, heat the 1/4 cup olive oil in a
Wedge of Parmesan cheese
large skillet over moderate heat. Add the garlic
and cook until the slivers are golden brown and
crisp, then add the chilies and cook for about 30 seconds.
Raise the heat to high and add the tomatoes. Simmer briskly
to soften the tomatoes and thicken the juices, about 3 minutes. Season with salt.
When the pasta is al dente, scoop out about 1/2 cup of the pasta cooking water, then drain the pasta.
Return the pasta to the warm pot off the heat. Add the sauce and the basil and mix well. Add some of the reserved
cooking water if the pasta seems dry. Transfer to a warmed serving bowl and grate Parmesan over the top to taste.
Drizzle with a little more olive oil. Serve immediately.
Makes 4 servings.
