• Through the Nitrogen Cycle • Describes the transformation of the chemical nitrogen as it moves through the air, the ecosystem, and underground. • When bacteria take nitrogen from the air and change it into a form usable by plants. • 1) Bacteria (usually living underground on the roots of plants) • 2) Take nitrogen from the air and changes its chemical form • N2 Gas into Ammonia NH3 which plants can use • In this stage the ammonia NH3 is changed into Nitrite • After all living organisms have used nitrogen, another type of bacteria and some times fungi known as decomposers coverts nitrogen rich waste from plants and animals into a simplified form of Nitrogen • The final step where bacteria make the Nitrogen back into it’s original form the N2 gas • Fixed Nitrogen is returned to the ground when plants and animals die and are broken down by decomposers, and the cycle repeats itself. • Precipitation: Water falling from the atmosphere to the ground (rain, snow, hail, sleet). • Evaporation: Water moves from the ground into the atmosphere, changing from liquid to a gas (water vapor) • Condensation: Water Vapor joins the clouds and depending on the temperature will either turn to rain, snow, sleet, or hail.
