Brahman – One great power – translated as ‘God’. It is everywhere and everything that exists lives in Brahman all the time. Deity – A representation of god. Trimurti – ‘The three gods’ – Brahma, Vishnu & Shiva Karma – The actions which affect rebirth Moksha – The end of the rebirth cycle Samsara – The law of rebirth Explain why Hindu’s say that the different God’s are ways of describing Brahman. These gods work ……………………… in a never ending pattern. …………………………. is made, lasts for a time and is then …………….. . Vishnu and Shiva are worshipped much for than …………………. . destroyed together Brahma Trimurti Everything Why do you think Vishnu and Shiva are worshipped more than Brahma? KARMA The type of person your soul moves on to depends on how you have lived. This is called the law of Karma. A good karma in your last life will mean a good life this time a bad karma in your last life will mean a hard life this time. From this comes the belief that there is no point in complaining or being proud of the sort of life you lead. It all comes from the way you behaved in your last life, so this is your own responsibility. God does not judge you – this is not necessary. How you live will decide whether your next life is a step up or a step down. Read the information in the box. Explain why you think Hindus believe people suffer? There is no idea in Hinduism being judged by God. How does this differ from the Christian tradition? Some Hindus believe doing something very bad will mean your soul is reborn in an animal and has to work its way up to a human being again. Doing something very goof may mean your soul is given a ‘rest’ before being reborn. Do you think suffering is our own fault? MOKSHA – the end of Samsara is called moksha. It is what every Hindu hopes to achieve. The soul breaks out of the cycle of rebirth and joins with Brahman. This can only happen when the soul becomes completely pure and is not affected by anything that happens on earth. How does a Hindu break free from suffering?
