Objectives of the course

CURRICULUM
A. Lecture
Contents
Giving rules, forms and conditions of receiving credit and completion of the
subject. Presentation topics of lectures and literature required for the subjects.
The history of manual medicine. Terminology and definitions: manual
medicine, osteopathy, chirotherapy, manual therapy. Training in manual
medicine in Poland, Europe and in the World.
Basics of the Neuro-Orthopaedic Manual Therapy and its place
in physiotherapy. Basic concepts of manual therapy.
Methods of diagnosis and manual therapy of interphalangeal joints (DIP, PIP),
metacarpophalangeal (MCP), radio-carpal joint.
The principles of diagnosis and manual therapy of joints: radio-ulnar proximal
and distal, humero-ulnar and humero-radial.
The principles of diagnosis and manual therapy of joints of the shoulder girdle.
Screening test for the cervical spine.
The principles of diagnosis and manual therapy of the foot joints:
talo-crural, talo-calcaneo-navicular, and metatarsal.
The principles of diagnosis and manual therapy of the knee.
The principles of diagnosis and manual therapy of the hip.
Screening test lumbar-sacral spine.
B. Seminar
Contents
Organizational issues. Giving rules, forms and conditions for receiving credit
and completion of the subject. The subject-matter exercises carried out in the
current semester and literature required for the exercise.
Clinical reasoning, diagnosis and manual treatment according to the principles
of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy in the process of comprehensive
physiotherapy. Functional examination and analysis of the differential testing
in manual therapy.
Diagnostics techniques and manual therapy of wrist joint.
Diagnostics and manual therapy techniques of interphalangeal joints (DIP,
PIP), metacarpophalangeal (MCP).
Diagnostics and manual therapy techniques of radioulnar joints, proximal and
distal.
Diagnostics and manual therapy techniques of humeroulnar and humeroradial
joints.
Diagnostics and manual therapy techniques of glenohumeral joint.
Diagnostics and manual therapy techniques of clavicle joints and scapula.
Differential testing of symptoms and pain in upper limb / spine.
Examination of superficial sensation, muscle strength indicator in the upper
limb.
Postisometric relaxation techniques of muscle groups of the upper limb.
sEMG studies in assessing the effects of manual therapy of the upper limb.

LABORATORIES: PRACTICAL MANUAL TECHNIQUES, WORKING IN PAIRS (SIMULATED PATIENT /
THERAPIST), GROUP WORK, CASE METHOD, PROBLEM METHOD, DISCUSSIONS.
STUDENT'S OWN WORK: WORK WITH A BOOK, WORKING IN PAIRS.

Skills assessment (EK_ 03, EK_04, EK_05):
Practical exam - preparing and carrying out the study and treatment of lower extremity joints and / or by
the upper material of the program activities in the semester.
5.0 - correctly in terms of substance and methodically prepares and carries out joint
examination and therapy chosen by the teacher, does not require any comments the teacher.
4.5 - correctly in terms of substance and methodically prepares and carries out joint examination
and therapy chosen by the teacher, requires little attention of the teacher, mostly of a technical

4.0 - correctly in terms of substance and methodically prepares and carries out joint examination

A positive final grade can be obtained provided the student obtained positive grades for each of the
learning outcomes in the first semester.
