The Blood of Olympus 20416 박선호 This is a book about Greek and Roman Mythology mixed with modern aspects. The main charactars are Percy, son of Poseidon, Jason, son of Jupiter, Piper, daughter of Aphrodite, Annabeth, daughter of Athena, Leo, son of Hephaestus, Nico, son of Hades, Hazel, daughter of Pluto, Frank, son of Mars, and their other allies. They are demigods whose mission is to stop the Earth Mother, Gaea from awaking from her slumber and destroying the world. In order to do that, they must travel to Greece and stop her servants from waking her and also deliver a special statue to the camp of the demigods, where Greek demigods and Roman demigods are in conflict. If all goes well, they would be able to return peace to both factions, and make sure that Gaea cannot wake up again. The main characters reach the Acropolis of Athens. There, they battle the most powerful of Gaea`s servants, the Giants, with the gods of Olympus. The story ends with Gaea being defeated, and prosperity being restored to the world. This is a book( a part of a series) which I strongly recommend to everyone. I can name several reasons. The first reason is The Blood of Olympus is more educational than one would imagine. Even though I started this book just for entertainment, I ended up learning about several gods and goddesses, and interesting facts about Greek mythology. However, while you are reading this book, you don`t have to perceive the fact that this is ‘educational’. The facts simply slip into our heads . An example of this is when Leo, son of Hephaestus, uses a magic net to catch the goddess of victory, Nike. But this particular net happens to be the same one used by Hephaestus when he humiliated Ares and Aphrodite. So by just one hilarious story, you obtain two more insights into the Greek and Roman world. Another lesson I found in this book was revolution. Every regime has its strengths and weaknesses, and over time, strengths wane and weaknesses grow. The regime of Gaea had gone on for some time(in Greek mythology). The gods of Olympus had to take back power so that the age of the humans, modern society, could continue. However, what I personally felt was that eventually, the gods of Olympus would eventually fall to a new power. The same would be applied to our society today. The 고려dynasty was replaced by 조선dynasty, and came to Korea as we know it today. And with each turn, society and lives of people improved. Change and revolution is always needed in society, because without it there is no development. There are no new ideas, new technology, or new values essential to the long-term benefit of civilization. Although people eventually die and are replaced, I believe that the author utillized a mythical god to emphasize the need of change. Gods don`t die, and unless some other influence takes over, they will rule forever. Like in dictatorships, or even in plain old democratic countries, the need for revolution will always loom before us.
