Unit I:
Congruence, Proof and
Constructions
Lesson 6 Congruent Triangles
Objective: Explain using similarity
transformations the meaning of similarity for
triangles as the equality of all corresponding
pairs of angles and the proportionality of all
corresponding pairs of sides.
Essential Question: How does the SSS Triangle
Congruence Postulate tell you about triangles?
Lesson 6 Congruent Triangles
Vocabulary
Congruent: Two figures are congruent when coinciding
at all points when superimposed.
Side-Side-Side (SSS) Postulate: If three sides of one
triangle are congruent to three sides of another
triangle, then the triangles are congruent.
Side-Angle-Side (SAS) Postulate: If two sides and the
included angle of one triangle are congruent to two
sides and the included angle of another triangle, then
the triangles are congruent.
Lesson 6 Congruent Triangles
Vocabulary
Included Angle: Given two sides of a triangle, the angle
they form is called included angle.
Included Side: Given two angles of a triangle, the side
which endpoints are the vertices of the two angles is
called included side.
Angle-Side-Angle (ASA) Postulate: If two angles and the
included side of one triangle are congruent to two
angles and the included side of another triangle, then
the triangles are congruent.
