System Title:
Integumentary
Generalized Function:
Organs
Specific Function
skin
Hold our organs in. Protect our organs
from infections and bacteria. Waterproofs
the body, protects deeper tissues, helps
regulate body temp. and alerts us what
happens at the body surface.
System Title:
Skeletal System
Generalized Function:
Protects and supports body organs; provides
a framework the muscles; used to cause movement; blood cells are formed
with the bones; stores minerals.
Organs
Specific Function
1. Joints
1. Provide movement in our bones.
2. Bones
2. Allow us to maintain posture.
System Title: Cardiovascular
Generalized Function: Carries oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and other
substances to and from the tissue cells where exchanges are made.
Organs


Heart
Blood Vessels
Specific Function


System Title:
A “blood pump” propelling blood
through the blood vessels to all the
body tissues.
Carry the nutrients, blood, and
oxygen through the body
Digestive System
Generalized Function: To break down ingested food and deliver products
to blood to disperse to body cells, also to rid of unnecessary waste.
Organs
Specific Function
Oral Cavity (mouth)
Food is broken down and enters digestive
tract.
Esophagus
A passageway that conducts food to the
stomach.
Stomach
A storage tank for food and site for
breakdown.
Small Intestine
Major digestive organ. Prepares useable
food for the cells to take.
Large Intestine
Dries out indigestible food residue by
absorbing water and to eliminate as feces.
Rectum
Anus
System Title: Endocrine
Generalized Function: Controls body activities, produces hormones and
releases into the blood.
Organs








Pituitary thyroid
Parathyroids
Adrenals
Thymus
Pancreas
Pineal
Ovaries
Testes
System Title:
Specific Function








Regulation of the gonads, thyroid,
adrenal cortex, water balance, and
lactation.
Raises blood calcium level
Increase blood glucose
Programs T-cells
Reduces blood glucose
Involved in rhythmic activities
Stimulate uterine lining growth
Supports sperm formation
Nervous System
Generalized Function:
Controls how the body receives and processes
stimuli. Fast-acting control system of the body. Responds to internal and
external changes by activating appropriate muscles and glands.
Organs
1. Brain
2. Sensory receptors
3. Spinal cord
Specific Function
1. The brain is the nervous system’s
center where all of the information
is gathered to in order for the body
to respond to the internal and
external environment.
2. The sensory receptors are where the
stimuli are received.
3. The spinal cord detects and sends
messages (via electrical signals
called nerve impulses) to the central
nervous system (brain and spinal
cord.)
System Title:
Urinary
Generalized Function: Removes the nitrogen containing waste from the
blood in the urine.
Organs
Bladder
Specific Function
A smooth collapsible muscular sack that
temporarily holds urine.
Kidneys clean the blood and adjust its
composition
Holds the urethra or “pee hole”. The
urethra is a thin wall tube that carries urine.
Kidney(s)
Penis/vagina
System Title:
Muscular System
Generalized Function: To contract or shorten with reactions and
commands (similar to “moving bones”)
Organs
1. Skeletal muscles
2. Cardiac muscle
3. Smooth muscle
Specific Function
1. When they contract you’re able to
walk, leap, jump and smile, etc.
2. Pumps blood and oxygen
3. Found in the walls visceral organs
(the stomach, urinary bladder, and
respiratory passages)
System Title:
Lymphatic System
Generalized Function:
Works hand in hand with the
cardiovascular system. Returns fluids leaked from blood to the vessels so
that blood circulates.
Organs
1. Lymphatic vessel
Specific Function
1. Picks up excess tissue fluid called
lymph, and return it to the bloodstream
2.Lymph nodes
2. remove foreign material from the
body
3. Cleanse the blood and house the
cells involved with immunity
3. Lymphoid organs (spleen, thymus,
tonsils, Peyer’s patches)
System Title:
Respiratory System
Generalized Function:
Keeps blood constantly supplied with oxygen
and removes carbon dioxide .
Organs
External Nares
Nasal Cavity
Pharynx
Larynx
Trachea
Primary Bronchi
Lungs
Specific Function
During breathing, air enters the nose
through the external nares, or nostrils.
The interior of the nose consist of the nasal
cavity.
The pharynx is a muscular passageway for
food and air.
The larynx routes air and food into the
proper channels.
The trachea is a windpipe.
The primary bronchi are within the lungs
and are direct routes to the air sacs.
The lungs are mostly air spaces.
The diaphragm contracts and the size of
the thoracic cavity increases.
Diaphragm
System Title:
Reproductive system
Generalized Function: To produce offspring
Organs
Specific Function
Testes
Produces sperm and male hormones.
Scrotum
Sac of skin at root of penis. Provides testes
w/ appropriate temperature and enclosure.
Delivers sperm.
Penis
Ovaries
Makes eggs (ova) and produces female
hormones.
Fallopian Tubes
Carries egg from ovaries to uterine wall
and holds ovaries in place.
Uterus
Provides site for development of fetus until
fertilization has occurred.
Vagina
Provides passageway for delivery of a an
infant and for menstrual flow to leave the
body.
