The Interdisciplinary Master in Life Sciences (IMaLiS) offers interdisciplinary and
quantitative training in biology to scientists, engineers and doctors, with specialisations
in four main domains: Systems biology, genomics and bioinformatics, Neurosciences,
Fundamental biology for health, Ecology and evolution.
Built on the renowned expertise of several schools and research institutes of Paris
Sciences & Lettres (PSL) - École normale supérieure, ESPCI Paris, Ecole Pratique des
Hautes Etudes, MINES ParisTech, Collège de France, Institut Curie, Institut Pasteur,
Institut de Biologie Physico-Chimique - this Master also relies on partnerships with other
universities, including the Université Pierre & Marie Curie (UPMC).
— I ndividual mentoring: a mentor is assigned to
MAIN ASSETS
— Interdisciplinarity: extensive training in biology
and related disciplines (mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer sciences).
— Combination of a general training with advanced
each student to guide his selection of courses,
internships and the finalisation of his teaching program. MD/PhD students benefit from dual scientific and medical mentoring.
— Availability of fellowships (10,000 €/year) for some
foreign students applying for M2.
specialisation in key emerging fields.
— Research training and innovation through research:
students engage in two five-month internships, in
two different academic or private research laboratories, in France or abroad.
— International dimension with courses taught in English.
French courses are offered to Foreign students.
— E xcellence of teaching. The program relies on outstanding French teaching institutions as well as on
prestigious research institutes deeply involved in
advanced teaching.
— Quality of the research laboratories of PSL Research
University.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
The Interdisciplinary Master in Life Sciences leads to a
large number of opportunities. It provides an excellent
training for researchers, university teachers, MD/PhD,
wet lab managers or engineers, in the public sector,
as well as in the context of Research & Development of
private companies (pharmaceutical, biotechnological
innovation etc.).
PROGRAM
Master 1 (60 ECTS)
Master 2 (60 ECTS)
Semester 1
Five lecture courses are to be chosen among
an extensive set of teaching units* devoted
to the acquisition of fundamental knowledge
and skills in life sciences, along with optional
courses preparing the ground for M2
specialisations.
Semester 1
4 main specialisations proposed, with possible
hybridisation:
— Systems biology, genomics and bioinformatics
— Neurosciences
— Fundamental biology for health
— Ecology and evolution
Semester 2
A 5-month research internship, often abroad.
Semester 2
A 5-month research internship, in an academic
or private research environment, in order to enable
each student to deepen his training at a chosen frontier
of biological research.
