Introduction
The purpose of this document is to provide detailed programming on how to integrate the Spectralink
8440 handsets to the UM8700 Voice mail via the SV8500 / SV9500 platform. The document provides
programming on 3rd party SIP on the SV8500 / SV9500 platforms (S-167), detailed set-up of the
Spectralink 8440 handset and set-up of the UM8700 Voice Mail system.
This document does not provide a detailed evaluation of the features and functions of the
Spectralink 8440 handset on the SV8500 / SV9500 system.
The only features that were tested in this document were RFC2833 (DTMF) dialling and Message
Wait to and from the UM8700 system.

Programming
3.1 SV9500 SIP Handler – SIP Terminals (S-167)
The Spectralink Handset was programmed as SIP Terminals under the control of the SIP Handler
inside the SV9500 server.
3.1.1 Programming
Before starting the data assignment, ensure to complete the Numbering Plan Data assignment for
Station Numbers and Telephone
Numbers with the ANPD/ASPA/ASPAN commands.

ASYDL - Assign the following system data.

Index 803, Bit 1: 1 (Consultation Hold Release is in service.)
Index 1382, Bit 0: Receiving digits operation of the SIP Handler Controlled SIP
terminal when a called station is busy (while receiving a Busy Tone (BT) generated
by IP-DTG).

Bit 1: Digest Authentication when the SIP Handler Controlled SIP terminal performs

STEP 7:
ALOCL - Assign the IP location ID data
Assign Location ID data of the Standard SIP terminal when Peer to Peer Bandwidth
Control [P-75] is used.
Note: Data setting for Setting of Type of Service (Signalling Packet) is not applied to a SIP Handler
Controlled SIP terminal.

STEP 8:
AIVCL - Assign the Payload data between IP location IDs of the SIP Handler
Controlled SIP terminal and connecting IP equipment. Confirm the specification of
Standard SIP terminal before this data assignment.
Note 1: For RFC2833 (DTMF Dialling) to operate correctly; ensure to set for G.711 codecs with a
payload equal to 40 milliseconds.
Note 2: Setting of Jitter Buffer and Setting of Type of Service (Voice Packet) are not applied to a
SIP Handler Controlled SIP terminal.
Note 3: Data other than Payload data is not applied to a SIP Handler Controlled SIP terminal.

3.2 Configuring the UM8700
3.2.1 IP Protims Programming
To program the IP Voice messaging ports in the SV9500 system;
1. Verify that the SV9500 system has licenses for using IP extensions via the ‘DPTR’
command.
2. Configure the ports as Dterm-IP (TEC-12) for the UM8700 extensions suing the ‘AISTL’
command.
3. Specify a Service Feature Restriction Class (RSC) for all Voice Messaging Ports via the
‘ASFC’ command. Then assign the following Service Feature Index’s (SFIs);

4. Assign the ports to a Uniform Call Distribution (UCD) group using the ASHU / ASHUN
command.
5. If you are using locations with different codecs across networks, configure a separate
location for the Voice Mail Ports. Set the same size location ID for all ports and then set for
G.711 codecs with a payload equal to 40 milliseconds for that location ID using the ‘ALOCL’
and ‘AIVCL’ commands.

3.2.2
UCD Programming
Assign the UM8700 IP Ports to a UCD station hunt group via the ASHU / ASHUN and AUCD /
AUCDN commands.
In this example the pilot is Extension 4030.
3.3.3 MCI Configuration
The MCI of the SV9500 platform can be configured for both Serial (RS232) and LAN-MCI (TCP/IP)
protocols. However, in our example, we use the LAN-MCI configuration. The following settings are
common for both Serial and LAN-MCI configuration.

Use the ADTM Command to configure the IP Address of the PBX. The LAN-MCI port is 60020 and
defaults on LAN 2.

Description
3.3.5 Configuring the UM8700
Once the telephone system programming is complete, you must configure the UM8700 for the
integration. During setup, you need the following information, specific to this integration, to configure
UM8700.
1. If you are configuring the Call Server for the first time, enter the name of your site in the Site
Name box of the Installation Configuration dialog box, the mailbox length in digits in the
Mailbox Length box, and the first extension number for the first line in the First Extension
box.
2. Select NEC as the Manufacturer.
3. Select the SV8500 Model from the following list:
a. NEAX 2000
b. NEAX 2400
c. UNIVERGE SV7000 / MPS
d. UNIVERGE SV8300
e. UNIVERGE SV8500
4. Select the Integration Type of MCI LAN:
a. IP Protims / Analog MCI LAN (TCP/IP) (if you are using an MCI LAN TCP/IP port)
b. IP Protims / Analog MCI Serial Port (if you are using an MCI Serial COM port)
5. Click OK. The Switch Options dialog box displays.
6. Make any changes to the default settings your site requires, and then click OK.

IP Protims MCI LAN – Required Parameters
8. In the Integration Options dialog box, select Required Parameters from the View menu. The
Required Parameters view displays. Follow the examples in the following tables for the type
of integration you are configuring.
IP Protims MCI LAN (TCP/IP)
Local IP Address to bind on
Select the local TCP/IP address of the Call Server machine. This
drop-down box displays all available local TCP/IP addresses on
the server.
Link Integration Module

PBX IP Address or Computer
Name
Enter the IP Address of the PBX.
TCP/IP Port Number
Enter the TCP Port Number used to communicate with the PBX.
Leave as default 60020.
Device Number
Select MC0 or MC 1. Leave as default MC0.
Remote DRS IP Address
Enter the IP Address of the Device Registration Service.
Note: - This is the IP Address of the PBX that the IP extensions
use to register with the PBX
Secondary DRS IP Address
Enter the IP Address of the Secondary Device Registration
Service.
Note: - This is the IP Address of the Secondary DRS server that
the IP extensions use to register with the PBX in the event of fail
over. Leave blank if no Secondary DRS is available.
Remote DRS TCP/IP Port
Enter the TCP Port used to communicate to the Device
Registration Service. The default is 3456.
Note: - This field displays on the Communication View of the Integrations dialog only.
9. In the Integration Options dialog box, select Integration Specific Parameters from the View
menu. The Integration Specific Parameters view displays. The parameters are the same for
either type of integration.
Note: - Not all Integration Specific Parameters are included in the following table.

10. Click OK. The Switch Section Options dialog box displays.
11. In the Switch Section Options dialog box, select Adaptive as the Incoming Hunt Mode, and
then type the UCD hunt group access code programmed in the telephone system in the
Hunt Group Access Code field. This is the pilot number that users dial to reach UM8700.
12. In the AT_SysCfg information dialog box, click ‘Yes’ to open the Board Options dialog box.
13. In the Board Options dialog box, select NEC as the Manufacturer, IP PROTIMS as the
Model, and then NEC IP PROTIMS as the Protocol.
14. Click the Lines tab in the System Configuration utility, and then assign the extension
numbers you created in telephone system programming to each line. Enable callouts to suit
your application. For information on configuring callout settings, see the topic ― “Configure
callout settings” in the online help system.
15. Click OK to save all changes.
16. When using LAN-MCI, make sure the network cable is connected to the correct LAN
interface of the UM8700. In addition, make sure that the UM8700, the network switch, and
the PBX are on the same network/sub network.
17. The Switch Options dialog box has default settings for the telephone system you selected
during setup. You may need to customize other settings in the Switch Sections and
Integration Options dialog boxes to suit the requirements of each application. Refer to
Installing UM8700 or the online help system for more details about setting these parameters.

3.3.6 Configuring UM8700 to detect RFC2833
1. In the Integration Options dialog box, select Integration Specific Parameters from the View
menu and depress ‘Edit’

2. In the Local Integration Settings under the view ‘Software DTMF Detection Settings’,
change the DTMF Detection Type to ‘First Detector’.

Spectralink 8440 Setup Guide
There are many different ways in which you can configure the Spectralink Handset. There are 2
options available to us;
1. Configure the handset and PBX parameters entirely via the ‘admin’ menus on the phone.
2. Use the web configuration mode via the web browser.
But in our test case, we will need to do a combination of both the achieve Message Wait on the 8440
handset.
