Heppner High School: Geometry Instructor: Mr. Morgan Phone: 676-9138 Ext. 2516 Office: Room 8 Email: [email protected] Office Hours: 7:30-4:00 Text: Holt McDougal Geometry Course Description: Students will gain basic knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of Geometry. We will also be concentrating on Algebra concepts. This class is also a preparatory class for Algebra II. We will focus on preparing students to meet their state assessment requirements. Goals: The students will: ¤ Begin with basic Algebra operations, highlighting previous state standard objectives. ¤ Explore Geometry: building blocks, measuring length and angles, and motion in Geometry. ¤ Explore properties of quadrilaterals, parallel lines, sum of interior and exterior angles and use of coordinates to analyze polygons. ¤ Be introduced to triangle congruence ¤ Find area, perimeter, circumference, and application of the Pythagorean Theorem. ¤ Explore three-dimensional space: surface area and volume. ¤ Calculate the surface area, volume of prisms, pyramids, cylinders, cones and spheres. ¤ Explore figures through dilations. ¤ Explore relationships among parts of circles: angles, segments, arcs and chords. ¤ Apply the use of sine, cosine, and tangent. ¤ Proofs Behavior Expectations: Students are expected to come to class prepared, ready and willing to work. They are also expected to not disrupt the learning of others. Respect for teachers, peers and themselves will help facilitate a safe learning environment for everyone. Attendance: Students are expected to attend classes and make up work when absent. They will receive two days to make up their assignments for everyday they are absent. If the assignment is not turned in or completed within the time allowed, it may receive a zero. It is the students’ responsibility to determine what they missed while they were gone. Make-up Students will have one week after each nine weeks to make up work to change an Incomplete (I) into a C. If the work is not made up within one week, the Incomplete will be changed to an F. Evaluation: Students will earn a grade though proficiency in the classroom. There will be a combination of ways to illustrate proficiency. Students will have multiple opportunities to become proficient on the standards of the class. Points are awarded for each of these efforts which are tabulated for a grade using a rubric. Earning a D is no longer available at HHS. You are either proficient with a C or higher or you earn an F. Semester Exam Students must pass semester exam with a 70% or higher or they will not pass the semester. Semester Exams will be given approximately two weeks before the end of the semester. Grading 100% to 90% of total points earn an A 89% to 80% is a B 79% to 70% is a C 69% and less is a F
