Network Engineer The American College of Financial Services is the nation’s largest non-profit professional educational institution devoted to financial services. Holding the highest level of academic accreditation, The College has served as a valued business partner to banks, brokerage firms, insurance companies and others since 1927. The College’s faculty represents some of the financial services industry’s foremost thought leaders. The American College, located in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania (just outside Philadelphia) is accepting applications for a Network Engineer who will be responsible for the design, development develop and maintenance of the College’s data and voice communications networks to ensure efficient information flow in a secure systems environment. The Network Engineer will be a member of the Network Operations Team, which supports and maintains Network Infrastructure and assists overseeing information technology Security practices at the American College. Primary Duties 1. DEVELOPS, TESTS, IMPLEMENTS AND MAINTAINS COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS AND RELATED SECURITY PROGRAMS Work with Director of Network Operations in assessing the College’s current and longer-term communications needs/capabilities. Evaluate alternative network technologies and products, making recommendations to the Director of Network Operations on network design concepts. Design, develop and maintain College LAN, WAN, VLAN’s and wireless networks. Setup, test and maintain College networks and infrastructure including but not limited to routers, switches, firewalls, and loads balancers. Manage design and implementation of network infrastructure and hardware into Data Center environment. 2. PROVIDE NETWORK SUPPORT SERVICES Monitor and maintain network connectivity (site-to-site, internet, etc.) between College locations, data center and network providers. Recommend changes as necessary i.e. (Qos, etc.). Maintain network diagrams and procedures. Keeps up-to-date on technology advances and advises the Director of Network Operations on new and evolving concepts applicable to the College’s needs. Review new technologies, define security configurations, perform vulnerability scanning and assessment, incident response, troubleshooting, issue resolution, assess and communicate infrastructure security risk. Monitors security reporting and executes the incident response plan as necessary, reviews and correlates computer reports, files, logs, and messages produced by engineers, system administrators, and systems identifying instances of possible information security incidents, supports the incident response plan and process, and supports investigations as required. Assesses information security infrastructure and recommends enhancements to support the enterprise security strategy; works closely with other areas of IT to test, plan, and implement security technology for the enterprise. Administer Intrusion Detection and other Network security systems. Comply with College security policies and established industry standards. 3. SYSTEM/APPLICATION MONITORING AND TROUBLESHOOTING Monitor and Log web usage and manage related software Monitor network usage and manage related software Provide on-call network support, as needed. Implements contingency plans for disaster recovery scenarios Participate in the review of operational policies and procedures and contributes to recommendations for systems enhancements. Act as liaison to other IT work and project teams to coordinate tasks and overlapping projects. Facilitate the maintenance and uninterrupted service of all host systems directly related to the College computing environment Serve in on-call capacity 24/7 to resolve system, hardware and application related problems. Provide backup support to Systems Engineer in support of server and domain administration. 4. TEAMWORK/OTHER WORK ASSIGNMENTS, AS REQUESTED Understand role in team for given assignments. Work cooperatively with team members to accomplish work. Requests and provides assistance from/to team members as needed (effective utilization of team capabilities/resources). Creates and maintains good technical documentation. Participate in special projects as assigned. Follow up on device related problems as needed. Respond to after-hours calls as needed. Job Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related experience. 5+-6 Years related experience with administering Cisco networking technologies - Cisco certification preferred. Experience with enterprise level networking, anti-virus software and virus/malware removal. Expert knowledge of WAN/LAN hardware and software technologies and configurations. Experience with system monitoring and using performance analysis tools. Sound analytical and problem solving skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively deal with IT and other College management. Sufficient manual dexterity for operation of PC keyboard and other standard office equipment.
