Composer Unit Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: A history Classical Era The classical era began approximately 1759until1820. Mozart was born in 1732. He began composing in 1736 at the age of 4. Some of the characteristics of this period can be found on the following link: Mozart’s birth Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born January,27,1756 in Salzburg, Austria in to Leopold and AnnaMaria Mozart. The Mozart’s lived here from 1747-1773. The rooms once occupied by them serve as a museum. Salzburg, Austria Mozart’s birthplace Mozart Square, located in the heart of Salzburg. Family Life Wolfgang’s father was a court composer in Salzburg for the Archbishop of Salzburg. Leopold was Mozart’s first music teacher. Mozart’s mother was very close to her children and often accompanied Wolfgang on his tours of Europe. Nannerl, Wolfgang’s older sister, was also a very gifted musician. The Requiem Mass This is a portrait of Mozart and his wife Constanze depicting his last days while writing the Requiem. The Requiem Mass was commissioned in the summer of 1791 under mysterious circumstances. Mozart, his health deteriorating, believed he was composing his own death Mass. Mozart died on December 5th, 1791 before it’s completion. For more information on the Requiem, click here Mozart’s Death There is still much speculation on what caused Mozart’s death. What is known is that his health slowly began to deteriorate over the course of many years. At the end of his career he was working constantly and this is said to have contributed to his illness. He died on December 5th, 1791 bankrupt. Wofgang Amadeus Mozart was buried in a mass grave in Vienna, Austria.
