Little League Elbow
O Inflammation over
medial epicondyle of
humerus
O Attachment of
forearm flexors
Medial Epicondylitis
O Known as Little
League Elbow
O MOI – overuse, too
many pitches
O S&S – pain medial
condyle of humerus
O TX – ICE and REST
Pitch Counts started in 2006
Lateral Epicondylitis
Lateral Epiconylitis
O Known as tennis
elbow
O Inflammation of the
wrist extensors
O Pain at the
attachment of the
lateral epicondyle of
the humerus
Lateral Epicondylitis
O MOI – overuse
O S&S – point tender over lateral epicondyle of
humerus, swelling, weakness
O TX – rest, rest, rest, and ICE, ICE, ICE
O Movement causes scar tissue to form,
athlete may need ultrasound and NSAIDS to
heal.
Olecranon Bursitis
O MOI – blow or fall tip
the elbow
O S&S – tons of
swelling, loss of ROM
O TX – ICE and
compression wrap,
pad for activity
ULNAR NERVE CONTUSION
O MOI – direct blow to
“funny bone”
O Ulnar nerve runs in a
groove between the
olecranon process and
medial epicondyle
O S&S – parasthesia down
ulnar side of forearm, 4th5th fingers
O TX – ice and pad for
sport
ELBOW DISLOCATION
Elbow dislocation
O MOI – FOTOSA with
O
O
O
O
elbow locked
Dislocates
POSTERIORLY
Fracture common with
dislocation
S&S – obvious
deformity, loss ROM
TX – ice, sling, hospital
to be reduced
Elbow hyperextension
O Hypermobility of
elbow
O Females tends to
have natural
hyperextension
O Damage to
ligaments, bones,
tendons surrounding
the elbow
Elbow hyperextension
O MOI – posterior force
when are is fixed,
FOTOSA
O S&S – pain, muscle
spasm, swelling, and
loss of strength
O TX – RICE, splint,
surgery for fractures
and complete tears
Elbow Sprains
O MOI – medial or
lateral force upon
elbow while elbow is
fixed.
O Tear of ulnar or
radial collateral
ligaments
O RICE, surgery for 3rd
degree
Ruptured biceps (tendonitis)
O Can occur at the
proximal ( shoulder)
or distal (elbow)
insertion
O Ice, rest, ultrasound,
NSAID, surgery for
3rd degree tears
O Torn distal bicep
tendon ( steroids)
Fractures
O MOI – sudden force
to arm - FOTOSA or
severe torsion force
Fractured Humerus
Fractured ulna and radius(
false joint)
Fractured ulna and radius
Fractured growth plate –
base 1st metacarpal
Plates and screws to improve
healing process
