COURSE
PREREQUISITE
CREDITS
INTEGRATED PATHWAY
MATH 1A
10 Credits – Required
Math 1A and Math 1B CP constitute Math 1CP. This course integrates high school conceptual categories of Number & Quantity,
Algebra, Function, Geometry, and Statistics & Probability. This one-year course is designed for students who may have struggled in
previous math courses. (Not a UC approved course)
MATH 1B CP
10 Credits – Required
This one-year course follows Math 1A and completes the first year of a three-year college preparatory sequence that integrates high
school conceptual categories of Number & Quantity, Algebra, Function, Geometry, and Statistics & Probability. (UC approved “C”
requirement)
MATH 1 CP
10 Credits – Required
Math 1CP integrates high school conceptual categories of Number and Quantity, Algebra, Function, Geometry, and Statistics and
Probability into a one-year course. It is the first year of a three-year college preparatory sequence. (UC approved “C”
requirement)
MATH 1 HONORS
10 Credits – Required
Placement in this honors level math course will be based on 2 items:
Previous math grades and teacher recommendation
This course is similar to Math 1 CP in terms of the general topics covered, but will also cover some early topics from Math 2 CP. It is
a fast-paced course where some Math 1 concepts are taught in greater depth. Higher-order thinking skills are stressed and students
are often expected to work independently. (UC approved “C” requirement)
MATH 2 CP
10 Credits – Required
Recommended grade of “C” or better in both semesters of Math 1 CP or Math 1B CP
Math 2CP is the second year of the three-year college preparatory sequence. It integrates the high school conceptual categories of
Number and Quantity, Algebra, Function, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. (UC approved “C” requirement)
MATH 2 HONORS
10 Credits – Required
Placement in this honors level math course will be based on 3 items:
Math 1 grades, placement test score, teacher recommendation
This course is similar to Math 2 CP in terms of the general topics covered, but will also cover some early topics from Math 3 CP. It is
a fast-paced course where some Math 2 concepts are taught in greater depth. Higher-order thinking skills are stressed and students
are often expected to work independently. (UC approved “C” requirement)
MATH 3 CP
10 Credits – Required
Math 3CP is the third year of the three-year college preparatory sequence. It integrates the high school conceptual categories of
Number and Quantity, Algebra, Function, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. (UC approved “C” requirement)
MATH 3 HONORS: SEE PRE-CALCULUS HONORS
ADDITIONAL COURSES
CONSUMER (CAREER) MATHEMATICS
Grades 11-12
10 Credits – Required
This course is designed to help students develop appropriate consumer and career mathematical skills. Course content will cover
such topics as review of basic operations, ratio, percent, equations, measurements, and many consumer topics. It will also include
test taking strategies. This course will meet the MHS graduation requirement.
(Not a “UC” approved course)
DISCRETE MATH
Grades: 11 -12
10 Credits – Required
Recommended grade of “C” or better in both semesters of Math 3
Discrete Math introduces students to the nature of mathematics, the character and origin of different subject fields in mathematics,
and the application of mathematics to several disciplines. This course includes topics in social science; management science,
including circuits; growth and symmetry; and statistics. Students are also introduced to related applications such as the traveling
salesperson problem, fair division, symmetry in nature and population growth. (UC approved “C” requirement)
STATISTICS CP
Grades 11-12
10 Credits – Required
Recommended grade of “C” or better in both semesters of Math 3
Statistics CP introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. This
course, which moves at a less rigorous pace than AP Statistics, will give the student a solid foundation for a college level course in
Statistics. (UC approved “C” requirement)
PRE-CALCULUS CP
10 Credits – Required
Recommended grade of “B” or better in both semesters of Math 3CP
This course combines many of the trigonometric, geometric, and algebraic techniques needed to prepare students for the study of
calculus, and strengthens their conceptual understanding of problems and mathematical reasoning in solving problems from the
functional point of view. Topics include algebraic functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometric functions, and
their applications. This course is intended for students planning to enroll in Calculus AB. (UC approved “C” requirement)
PRE-CALCULUS HONORS
10 Credits – Required
Placement in this honors level math course will be based on following items:
Math 2 and/or Math 3 grades and teacher recommendation (plus placement test for CP students)
This course will cover the last part of Math 3CP, all of Pre-Calculus CP, and an introduction to calculus. It is a fast-paced course
where many concepts are taught in greater depth. Higher-order thinking skills are stressed and students are often expected to work
independently. This course combines many of the trigonometric, geometric, and algebraic techniques needed to prepare students
for the study of calculus. Successful completion of this course, with a grade of “C” or above, provides a “grade point” adjustment
for each student. (UC approved “C” requirement)
AP CALCULUS AB
10 Credits – Required
Recommended grade of “B” or better in both semesters of Pre-Calculus CP/H
Covers functions, limits, differentiation, integration, and applications. This course will prepare the student for the College Board
Advanced Placement Calculus AB examination, which may enable the student to obtain college credit. Successful completion of this
course, with a grade of “C” or above, provides a “grade point” adjustment for each student. (UC approved “C” requirement)
AP CALCULUS BC
10 Credits – Required
Recommended grade of “B” or better in both semesters Pre-Calculus Honors
Includes extended treatment of the topics of Calculus AB, as well as series, sequences, and polynomial approximations of
functions. This course will prepare the student for the College Board Advanced Placement Calculus BC examination, which may
enable the student to obtain college credit. This is a high level, fast -paced class. Successful completion of this course, with a grade
of “C” or above, provides a “grade point” adjustment for each student.
(UC approved “C” requirement)
AP STATISTICS
10 Credits – Required
Recommended grade of “C” or better in both semesters of Pre-Calculus CP/H
AP Statistics introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. This
course will prepare the student for the College Board Advanced Placement Statistics Examination, which may enable the student to
obtain college credit in introductory statistics. Successful completion of this course, with a grade of “C” or above, provides a
“grade point” adjustment for each student. (UC approved “C” requirement)
