God plans the history of nations with a purpose. God controls the rise and fall of rulers and nations. God is interested in all nations and all persons from those nations. This course is a study of modern world history, including the foundation of world religions and beliefs, exploration, intellectual revolutions, violent revolutions, industrial revolution, nationalism/imperialism through the world wars, cold war, the quest of countries seeking independence and changes in current global patterns. GOALS AND RESOURCES Goals: • • • • Understand God’s presence throughout history and how he worked in the events of man to accomplish his perfect will. Apply lessons learned from history to our lives. Follow good examples of individuals from history while avoiding the mistakes of others. Learn the important world events from the beginning of Civilization through the 20th Century. Appreciate the efforts of those who have gone before us and how their work benefits us today. Describe rules <I>and</I> consequences.] My Expectations: 1. You will arrive before class start time, sit down, take out any materials you need, and prepare for class. Class starts on time and ends on time. If you are late or need to get organized, don’t make a production out of it. Be quiet and respectful. This kind of behavior is COMMON COURTESY. 2. 3. I expect that you will listen to me, take notes, and not bother people trying to do their job—even if they are your friends. 4. Come see me if you are having problems. I am on your side. I want to help you. If you don’t know what to do, you need an explanation, you need help getting organized, come see me BEFORE it is too late. You know when you are not doing as well as you like to. That moment is the moment you should schedule an appointment. You must follow all school and class rules. Disruptive behavior (talking, singing, sleeping, anything other than what I have asked you to do) will result in a warning then a more drastic measures if it continues. Any behavior that violates school rules or the State’s education code (verbal assault, sexual harassment, physical violence, preventing other students from learning, etcetera) will result in a referral to the Director. 5. You will do all of the assignments and turn them in on time. Get a calendar; learn to manage your time. If you have an excused absence on the day something is due, you must turn it in on the DAY YOU RETURN TO SCHOOL. I accept emailed assignments, in fact I adore them, BUT if you type in the incorrect email address, that is not my problem. Please put the title of the assignment in the subject line. If you do not do put the title in the subject line, it might get erased or blocked by my spam blocker, and I will not let you resend it. Please write your first and last name in the body of the email. Tell me what period you are in, and please write a professional email. Abbreviations and characters are not appropriate in an email to your teacher. Plagiarism and Cheating: Plagiarism and cheating are taken seriously. I am vigilant about checking for plagiarism and cheating and I follow school policy concerning this issue. If a student is caught cheating or plagiarizing they will receive the consequence as stated in the school discipline policy statement. In addition, students will receive no points for the work and will not be allowed to resubmit the work for a grade. I will also request a conference with the student’s parents. Please don’t cheat or plagiarize; it is not worth the loss of trust, credibility and points. Grading Policies: [Insert explanation of class grading policy.
