Probability and Statistics
Course Syllabus
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Probability and statistics gives students an introductory-level amount of content with probabilistic problems and
statistical methods, models, etc.
SCOPE AND SEQUENCE:
Probability and Statistics is a math course that branches away from the typical Algebra I, Algebra II, Precalculus,
Calculus pathway. The only actual prerequisite for the content of this course is Algebra I. The course focuses on
teaching the new branch of math with a new way of thinking. There will also be comparably heavy use of
technology to do more rigorous data analysis and visualizations.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon the successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
 Classify data
 Describe data by position and variation
 Create graphical displays of data
 Answer probabilistic questions
 Classify and interpret probability distributions
 Calculate probabilities for situations and distributions
 Create and interpret confidence intervals
 Create hypothesis tests and execute them
 Evaluate correlations and regressions
 Analyze variances

CHEATING, PLAGIARISM, AND FALSIFICATION:
Fort Lee High School does not tolerate any instance of cheating, plagiarism, or falsification. As per Policy 5131.2:

presenting the work of another person as one’s own.
C. Falsifications, including forging signatures, altering answers after they have been graded, the insertion of
answers after the fact, the erasure of grader’s markings, and other acts that allow for falsely taking credit.”
A pupil found guilty of academic dishonesty will be subject to reprimand and loss of credit for all of the work that is
subject to cheating, plagiarism, and falsification.

MR. TURTORO’S POLICIES

General Policies
o 1 person in the bathroom at a time.
o No Extra Credit. Only Extra Help.

Absence/Extension Policies
o Extensions for summative assessments (tests/quizzes) are only granted if 2 or more

handed in upon return. (All HWs posted on Google Classroom) When HW is handed in,
student should indicate on the HW that they were absent on the day it was submitted.
o Quizzes should be made up after 1 week. Failure to do so may result in loss of credit for
the assessment. (Exceptions made for excessive excused absences)

Attendance policies
o Students entering the class anytime after the bell should sign in the sign-in sheet at the
front of the room.
o HW handed in after it is collected is late.
o Unexcused Tardies (>15 min, >20 min for 1st period). will be recorded as cuts (4 cuts =
DROP)
o Students marked “Present” by the attendance office will be recorded as a “Cut” if they
fail to attend class.

HW Policies

GRADING
Students will be have a year-end grade consisting of 4 Marking Period grades worth 20% each, and 2
Exams (Midterm and Final) scores worth 10% each. Within each Marking Period grade, 60% will be
summative evalutation (Tests, Projects, Quizzes) and 40% will be Formative evaluation (Homeworks,
Participation, Classwork).
