2. In earlier times how did the pearl divers try to get a better price for their

3. What is suggested by the father’s sermon Juan Thomas retells?
What might lead Kino and his brother to believe this? What might lead them
to be suspicious of the priest’s sermon?

impressed by the size and beauty of the pearl?
5. What strategies does the buyer use to try to convince Kino that the pearl
has little value? How is the village divided on Kino’s actions with the pearl
buyer? Do you think Kino acted wisely? Why or why not?
6. When it says, “(Kino) had lost one world and had not gained another,” what
world did he lose?
7. Why is Kino’s brother afraid for him?
8. What does Kino say this time when Juana again says they should get rid of
the pearl because it brings evil? What is implied in his answer? At this point
do you think Kino is right? Why or why not?
It is a big day because it is the day that Kino is going to sell his pearl and people will
see if it changes Kino into a rich man or not.
They hired an agent to take the to the capital to sell but he was never heard from
again. They tried again with a different agent and the same thing happened.
Kino’s people are inferior to his people because that is the way God wants it to be. This
is the way it has always been, but Kino and his brother are suspicious because the
priest repeats the sermon every year.
The pearl buyer drops his coin when he is ipping it around with his hand under the
table when he sees the pearl for the rst time.
He says that the pearl is like fool's gold, too large and belongs in a museum with seashells.
And even tells him to ask the other buyers if he doesn’t believe him. Some believe he did the
right thing while others believe Kino has ¨cut off his own head ¨ by defying the whole pearl
buying process. But I think he did the right thing.
He lost his current way of life. For Kino and his family, things will never be the way
they were before nding the pearl
He has not only de ed the pearl buyers but the whole structure, the whole way of life.
He says they will have their chance and he will ght this thing. I think he is wrong
because he lost his regular life and he is risking his life. And it’s a HUGE risk.
