Cultural Landscapes of the World
We have divided the chart into 7 regions. Then we selected 5 different cultural traits, per the CED, and
assigned two to each region. Your job is to utilize your background knowledge of these regions, your textbook,
or other online sources and find an image (preferably a photo) that displays these traits in real locations. In the
image box include the location. Then write an explanation as to WHY that cultural trait is present WHERE it is.
Some have been done for you as examples.

TOPONYMS
The presence of German toponyms in Namibia
is evidence of the colonial era. Namibia
actually has 9 official languages, including
Afrikaans from neighboring South Africa, but
many white German descendants still live there
and speak German daily. Many of these
German enclaves have been created as tourist
towns on the coast. And there is an added
bonus: in the background is a traditional
German Christian church with it’s Gothic-like
spire.
TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE
These structures are well suited to hot climates
because of the thick walls providing an
insulation from the heat. These house are
present in various ethnic groups.
