DREAMS And their interpretations What about your dreams? 01 02 03 Can you remember your last dream? If you can, what was it about? Are your dreams mainly positive or negative? Give reasons Have you ever dreamt in A foreign language? Dreams are often "internal movies" that portray the thoughts and feelings of your subconscious mind at the time of the dream. A dream is often a snapshot of your current or recent life, or one aspect of your life, portrayed the way your subconscious mind sees it. Often the subconscious mind will create a visual story using symbols that represent your deepest thoughts and feelings at the time of the dream. There are many theories about why we dream, but no one knows for sure. It would make sense that the subconscious mind would use dreams as a way to "think through" important matters or problems, to analyze potential problems or dangers, or replay past pleasant experiences or create new ones. Often, the meaning of a dream is much different than the obvious meaning of events in the dream. For example, a dream that you have lost your keys most likely has nothing to do with actually losing your keys, but probably has to do with a feeling of losing touch with your self-identity and who you really are. Message A Message Dream contains information from a source outside of yourself; usually with an indication that you or someone else needs to know something or that some action may be needed. The purpose of the message could be to clarify a situation in your life, reassure you that you are on the right track or tell you that you are off-track ,and the like. Premonition A Premonition Dream predicts or gives some indication of actual future events. The only ways to discern a premonition dream from any other kind of dream are: Through your own intuitive inner knowing. By having it verified by an intuitive expert. By waiting to see if the premonition actually comes true. Rehearsal A Rehearsal Dream involves a run-through of an actual planned event you're expecting in the near future. This type of dream allows the subconscious to prepare in advance for an important or potentially traumatic event. Depending on your emotions about the event, your subconscious may choose to run through either the best-case scenario, or the worst-case scenario . The dream tells you what your fears are, you have a chance to work through them before the event, if you choose to. Symbolism A dream contains symbolism when one or more key elements, or symbols, are featured prominently and the dreamer experiences those elements as having great significance (even if the dreamer doesn't know what the symbol means). These key elements almost always represent something other than themselves and carry a hidden, deeper meaning. Timeline A Timeline Dream presents a sequence of events or elements from a portion of your life, beginning at a certain point in your life and ending at a later point. A timeline dream usually portrays a series of events from the past, but can also include current and future events or situations. A Toxic Dream is usually a very realistic, upsetting dream . They are usually terrible nightmares and their purpose is often simply as a signal that you went to bed in a physically toxic state. These dreams can result from a number of factors the day before, including: o Eating carbohydrates (sugar, white flour), processed or junk food. o Eating any foods within 2 hours before going to bed. o Ingesting drugs or other substances that stress the body. o Encountering environmental toxins (exhaust fumes, etc.). o Being stressed o Being emotionally toxic, such as going to bed angry or hateful o Not getting enough rest Activities A particular activity or task in a dream can represent that actual activity in your life (usually something you've done recently or is on your mind for the future). Also, very often, an activity represents something completely different, but with some similar characteristic. For instance, dreaming that someone steals your keys often means you're feeling like you're losing your self-identity, or that someone or something is "crossing your boundaries"—or you're afraid they will. Animals A dream about a particular animal often means that certain qualities of that animal are significant to you right now. Think of what that animal symbolizes to you, and what the standard ideas about the animal are. For example, a mule is usually thought of as stubborn). Notice what the animal is doing in the dream, and how they are doing it. For example, a dog who is digging a hole may mean that treasure lies in hidden places and you'll need to go looking for it. Colours Often represent moods, feelings, or a sense about the object or situation where the color appears. Colours that stand out in a dream are often very important symbols. For instance, a person wearing all black can mean your subconscious is portraying them as sad or mourning a loss, or as very formal in their manner or style Conditions The condition or state of something in a dream can have important meaning, sometimes even more important that the meaning of the object itself. For example, in a dream about a broken leg, the condition of the leg (broken) is the key factor in the dream. The leg is a symbol of moving forward, but the fact that it's broken would mean you're feeling unable to move forward. Emotions Emotions in dreams often represent themselves, although the subconscious mind may be exaggerating them in the dream. For instance, if you are feeling angry or happy during a dream, you are likely truly angry or happy about what's happening in the dream—and also about what it represents in real life. An angry person in a dream who comes up and hits you could represent your feeling that the world is an aggressive or negative place, or a recent real-life event where you experienced someone else's anger—or anger in some context that happens to be on your subconscious mind. Insects and bugs A dream about a particular insect often means that certain qualities of that insect are significant to you right now. Think of what that insect symbolizes to you, and what the standard ideas about the insect are. For example, ants are usually thought of as industrious and well-organized. Notice what the insect is doing in the dream, and how they are doing it. For example, a bee that is gathering nectar might represent enjoying the sweeter things in life, whereas an angry bee buzzing around your head may represent a nuisance or threat. Objects An object in a dream often represents the characteristics you attribute to that object. Meaning, if you dream about your watch that has been stopping a lot lately, your watch may represent your feeling that you're life has felt "stopped" or interrupted lately. Also, the significance of an object in a dream may not be what it is, but it's context—how it is placed or where it appears. For instance, an object that's out of place or in an unusual place can mean that whatever that object represents in real life feels "out of place" or off right now. Parts of the body A part of the body (knee, elbow, head) often represents one of the main functions of that body part. For example, dreaming that you break your leg can represent trouble moving forward or making progress in your life, since the legs are what enable you to literally move forward when you walk. Dreaming that you can't open your mouth to talk might mean you're feeling unable to express yourself right now. Occasionally, dreaming about a particular part of the body can result from actual physical pain or other sensation in that part of your body while you're sleeping. For example, dreaming that your head has swelled up 10 times its normal size could be a result of an actual headache while you're sleeping. People A person in a dream can represent that actual person, or the characteristics you attribute to that person. Meaning, if you dream about your boss who is always in a hurry, your boss may represent himself, or he may represent the idea of hurrying: for example, a feeling like you need to hurry something, or that you are hurrying too much or need more patience. Places Places can indicate the setting of a dream, a mood, an event, or many other things. For example, many people dream that they are in a house—which usually represents the dreamers life or one aspect of their life (home life, work life). A dream that takes place in a graveyard can indicate a dreary or depressing mood or a feeling of dream or sorrow. Dreaming of a Superbowl stadium can represent an actual game or something that is sporting or game-like. Common dreams House: Your life, or your family and/or household.
