Gas sensor will detect the presence of LPG gas in a room. The voltage
value will then be converted into digital data by ADC (Analog to Digital
Converter) on the microcontroller. Then the obtained data will be
processed by the microcontroller and the results will be displayed on the
LCD.

MQ2 is a metal oxide semiconductor type gas sensor. Concentrations of
gas in the gas is measured using a voltage divider network present in the
sensor. This sensor works on 5V DC voltage. It can detect gases in the
concentration of range 200 to 10000ppm.

If it detects a gas leak, the red LED will light
up, the buzzer will activate, then the system
will send a notification message stating that
there has been an LPG gas leak. If no LPG gas
leak is detected, the system will continue to
detect the gas level through the LPG gas sensor
until it detects an LPG gas leak.

When the Arduino board gets a HIGH pulse
from a gas sensor then it displays a message
LCD display and activates buzzer to generate
beep sound. When an LPG gas sensor gives a
LOW pulse to Arduino board, then the display
shows “no gas leakage” message.

When tin dioxide (semiconductor particles) is
heated in air at high temperature, oxygen is
adsorbed on the surface. In clean air, donor
electrons in tin dioxide are attracted toward
oxygen which is adsorbed on the surface of the
sensing material. This prevents electric current
flow.
In the presence of reducing gases, the surface
density of adsorbed oxygen decreases as it reacts
with the reducing gases. Electrons are then
released into the tin dioxide, allowing current to
flow freely through the sensor


Rs is the resistance of the sensor that changes
depending on the concentration of gas. R0 is
the resistance of the sensor at a known
concentration without the presence of other
gases, or in the fresh air. For air, Rs /R0 =9.8

The fabricated device when tested for its performance
gave a positive result. The device detects the
concentration of LPG gas leakage in the air if it exceeds
a safety level and then responds by sending GSM
messages to the user through the use of SIM8000L
module. ThThe Proteus Design Suite is a proprietary
software tool suite used primarily for electronic design
automation. The software is used mainly by electronic
design engineers and technicians to create schematics
and electronic prints for manufacturing printed circuit
boards. Figure 3 shows the circuit diagram that was
designed using Proteus librariee LED and buzzer are
activated to alert the user and the device displays the
message on the LCD. Fig.4 shows the nal device after
construction, but with the power supply switched o.

The design of a sensor-based automatic gas
leakage detector with an alert and control system
has been proposed and discussed in this paper.
This is a low-cost, low power, lightweight,
portable, safe, user friendly, efficient, multi
featured and simple system device for detecting
gas.
Gas leakage detection will not only provide us
with significance in the health department but it
will also lead to raise our economy, because when
gas leaks it not only contaminates the atmosphere
but also wastage of gases will hurt our economy

A microprocessor device was designed to measure
LPG (propane, C3H8) gas. It can measure gas at a
concentration of 200 to 10,000 ppm and the objective of
this work was met since the systems work eectively. As
the gas detected in the environment varied, the LCD
displays the quantity of the LPG constantly in parts per
million (PPM).
With the gas leakage below the preset critical value, the
red LED was o and the LCD displayed "Environment
safe" indicating that there is no leakage of gas. With the
gas detected above the preset critical value, the red
LED was blinking and the LCD displayed
"Environment unsafe" indicating that there is leakage
of gas with the buzzer raising an alarm by beeping
