1. Introduction of DWH
The Unreserved Ticketing Systems (UTS) is an OLTP system characterized by large numbers
of concurrent users actively adding and modifying data. The need to analyse UTS data is
becoming more and more by higher management for (i) managing and utilizing the existing
resources (ii) creating new resources for the convenience of Passengers (iii) Providing a new
trains for Passengers convenience and (iv) Analysing the decrease/increase of Passenger for a
particular section. However, when Railway management wants to analyse the data, a numerous of
problems often prohibit the data from being used:
 Railway Officers (even the Railway Programmers) cannot generate Adhoc queries.
 Reporting Databases are available across multiple sites throughout the country. It is difficult
for the Railway users to find the all zone data in the Single place.
 Database Administrators prohibit Adhoc querying of UTS OLTP systems, to prevent analytical
users from running queries (e.g. how many Passengers are travelled for a given journey Day
and their Earnings) as these affect the performance of UTS databases.
The Data warehouse captures information related to Passenger, tickets, Earnings etc. for particular
Ticket type, Train type, Class, Section Wise, Source and Destination. The data are transferred from
various sites and loaded into Data warehouse (DWH) structures. On the data warehouse, a frontend application is designed which provides a standard set of Reports.
DWH can be used for the following analysis:
1. Analysis of Passengers:
1.1. Class-wise utilization of Passenger Percentage Occupancy against the carrying capacity
(Average weekly, Average monthly, cumulative and also for peak period and non-peak
period separately).
1.2. Train-wise utilization of Passenger Percentage Occupancy against the carrying capacity
(Average weekly, Average monthly, cumulative and also for peak period and non-peak
period separately).
1.3. Train-wise utilization of Passenger for a section against the carrying capacity or
introduction of new trains (Average weekly, Average monthly, cumulative and also for
peak period and non-peak period separately).
2. Analysis of Tickets:
2.1. Class-wise number of tickets issued Percentage against the carrying capacity (Average
weekly, Average monthly, cumulative and also for peak period and non-peak period
separately).
2.2. Train-wise number of tickets issued Percentage against the carrying capacity (Average
weekly, Average monthly, cumulative and also for peak period and non-peak period
separately).
2.3. Train-wise number of tickets issued Percentage for a section against the carrying capacity
(Average weekly, Average monthly, cumulative and also for peak period and non-peak
period separately)
3. Analysis of Earnings:
3.1. Class-wise Earnings (Average weekly, Average monthly and cumulative).
3.2. Train-wise Earnings (Average weekly, Average monthly and cumulative)
3.3. Section-wise Earnings (Average weekly, Average monthly and cumulative).
4. Analysis of Loss In Earnings Due to Concession:

The above will help the Management to do the following:





Study the Booking pattern.
Can do impact analysis i.e. increase or decrease of Passenger for a Zone, Division, Section
etc.,
Can do trend analysis for planning future growth of Railways.
Can do impact analysis i.e. increase a particular Concession what will be the Earning Loss.
It will enable Railways to tackle the competition posed by low cost traveling options
offered by Airways and Roadways in the later phases.

2. Web site navigation steps
The website www.dw.indianrail.gov.in is hosted by UTS to provide the all sets of DWH Report
to the end user on any time. These All Reports can be viewed through this web site.
The Reports for accessing these Reports are shown below:
Type the URL www.dw.indianrail.gov.in
The Following Screen will appear
Click “Accounting Reports” link, Report selection menu will appear.

For viewing all available reports of UTS-DW, clicking the All Reports link, a page will be appear
similar to the shown above which contains the individual Reports accessing view link. Currently
there are 26 sets of Reports available in this section.
3.Report Category Description
3.1. Earning : The reports which are related to earning for Percentage Slab-wise Redefined,
Destination- wise , Current and Last Year Percentage Growth, enhanced reservation charges
collected, Zone Wise, Class Wise and Ticket-Type wise , Collection of Mela Charge Station Wise
comes under this category.
3.2.Passenger: The reports which are related to Passenger for Percentage Slab-wise Redefined,
Passengers booked distance-wise, Month-wise details of number of children booked, Current and
Last Year Passengers Percentage Growth, All India Summary Report of Current and Last Year
Passengers %Growth, Class Wise % Occupancy And No. Of Passengers Booked, Cancer Patients
Availed HO Quota , utilization figures of SLIP coaches, Zone Wise, Train Wise And Station Wise
Utilization comes under this category.
3.3. Earning and Passenger: The Reports which are related to earning and Occupancy in same
report for Train no.-wise, Boarding Station wise, Zone wise, class wise, Percentage-wis, Date-wise,
Month-wise, Sectional Coaches Attached /Detached, Extra Coach, Division and Ticket-Type wise
comes under this category.
3.4. Accounting: This report which is static in nature and uploaded on monthly basis in the form
of excel sheet, text format from accounting Module comes under this category. There are 14 types
of reports available presently in this category as follows:
3.5 Concession: The report 9 which are related to the different type of concession given by the
UTS system comes under this category.

4. Web site Report Descriptions:
Report No.1
Purpose:
This Report provides information of Zone Wise, Class Wise (I/II/Other) , Suburban/Non-suburban
wise Passenger Kilometre and percentage variations with respect to last year in UTS. It shows data
from April, 2016 onwards. This report consists of following filters as shown-

wise Net Passenger and Earning Details and percentage variations with respect to last year in UTS.

This report is divided in three parts i.e Report No. 3.1, 3.2, 3.3.
Report No. 3.1 (old)
Purpose: . It consist data from Apr 2015 to March 2016. This report provide Zone-Wise Top 50
O-D pair’s Passengers and Earnings.
Report No. 3.2(Report No. 3a)
Purpose:
It consist of zone,division-wise Top 50 O-D Pairs data from Apr 2016 onwards( IR/Division/Zonewise reports of Top 50 O-D Pairs).

travelled and Net Passenger Earnings and percentage variations with respect to last year (suburban/
Non-suburban) for IZZAT concession, all concessions other than izzat and without concession
tickets in UTS(from booked location) based on 4 days old data.
Report is divided in two parts. One having old format and other having new format.
