SPH3U Name: _____________ U4 ELECTRICITY & MAGNETISM: Lesson 3 & 5 Complex Circuits & Power CIRCUIT ANALYSIS Series Circuit vs. Parallel Circuit Series - Only ONE path for charges to flow (ie. electrons passes through each resistors in a consecutive fashion) Parallel - Multiple pathways for charges to flow (ie. electrons reach a “fork in the road” and choose which way to flow) When all the devices are connected using series connections, the circuit is referred to as a “series circuit” When all the devices are connected using parallel connections, the circuit is referred to as a “parallel circuit”. Each device is placed on its own branch. Solving a circuit means finding all missing values for: Current (I), Electric potential difference (V), and Resistance (R) Tools for Circuit Analysis Problems: Kirchoff’s Current Law I series = I1 = I 2 = I3 = ...
