Year 7 Guidance for Science Exam –Autumn 2015 Below is a list of topics you will be tested on in the Science exam. You should spend time revising these particular topics, as this will help your preparation for the exam. Notes The Science paper will also have data based questions – which may require you to draw graphs; use information given in results tables; comment on how you carry out experiments (e.g. cell slide preparation). Use the revision sheets that you have been given to help you revise – if you do not have any of the sheets then you need to see your teacher to get another copy. Energy Sources (Physics) The following will help Know the different types of energy (e.g. kinetic, Gravitational potential, elastic, thermal, sound, light, electrical, thermal) Know what is meant by the terms “renewable” and “non-renewable” energy sources and be able to give examples of each. Know that energy can be changed from one form into another form of energy States of Matter (Chemistry) The following will help To know how the particles are arranged in Solids; liquids and gases. Know the different changes of state. Understand what is meant by boiling and melting points Know how to calculate the density; volume; mass of an object using the formula density = mass divided by volume (g/cm3) Know how to calculate the density of an irregular object. Cells (Biology) The following will help Know the seven characteristics of all living things. Know the different cell parts found in typical animal and plant cells. Know the functions (jobs) of the different cell parts. Know how to prepare a slide of plant cells to be viewed using a microscope Know the different types of specialized plant and animal cells. Electric circuits The following will help Know how to draw circuit diagrams using the correct symbols. Know how to measure current using an ammeter Know what happens to the amount of current in a circuit Know how current flows around a circuit
