Mass is a measure of how heavy an object is.

Balance scale is used to compare the mass of two objects.
Which is heavier?
The banana is heavier than
the cherry.
Which is lighter?
Compare the fruits below.
The mango is lighter than
the watermelon.
The apple and the lemon
have the same mass.
A weighing scale is used to measure the mass of objects. We usually see this in markets to
measure the mass of items/food such as rice, sugar and meat.
KILOGRAM (kg) it is use to measure the mass of heavier objects.
GRAM (g) is used to measure the mass of lighter objects.
REMEMBER:
One kilogram is equal to one thousand grams (1kg=1,000g)
This muffin weighs 100g.
The mass of a box of chocolate cookies is
500g.
The squash weighs 3kg.
This is also equal to 3,000g.
Let’s compare the mass of a sack of onions and a sack of potatoes.
The mass of the onions is 2kg.
The mass of the potatoes is 4kg.
The mass of the onions is 2kg less than the potatoes.
There are some instances that you have to convert or turn the kilogram into gram to get the
correct measurement.
The mass of the sugar is 2kg.
The mass of the choco powder is 500g.
The mass of the milk powder is 1kg.
The mass of the milk powder is _____ g more than the choco powder.
To get the measurement, use grams for both items then subtract.
