4C’S
21st Century
Skills
▹
These four C’s are the
guiding principles
behind our digital
literacy goals for
students.

ANALYSIS
Let’s start?
“
What did you understand
about the 4C’s of 21st
Century Skills as
illustrated?
6
4C’S
Critical Thinking
▹
▹
Critical Thinking refers to students’
abilities to analyze, interpret,
evaluate, make decisions and solve
problems (Fisher, 2011).
Fahmi et al. (2019) emphasized the
teaching of how to conduct research
that starts with simple stages to find a
conclusion or knowledge which will
make the classroom learning
interesting and able to train student
critical thinking skills.

4C’S
Communication
▹
▹
Communication refers to students’
ability to share information while
expressing their thoughts and
opinions clearly to others.
According to Büyükbaykal (2015),
developments in communication that
integrate technology play a vital role in
social relationships and generate new
educational opportunities.

4C’S
Creativity
▹
▹
Creativity involves skills such as
brainstorming, strengthening ideas,
connecting to other people's ideas,
and making ideas concrete and
helpful to others.
Creative thinking is among the most
sought-after life and work skills in the
21st century. The demand for
creativity, however, exceeds the
degree to which it is available and
developed (Ritter et. al 2020).
9
4C’S
Collaboration
▹
▹
Collaboration refers to students’ ability
to work with others to accomplish a
goal, while flexible and sharing
responsibilities.
Murray-Harvey et al. (2013)
acknowledge that valuing others'
perspectives, connection, and learning
about oneself were highlighted as
required attitudes for collaborative
learning.
10
4C’s of 21st Century Skills
▹ According to the Organization for Economic
Cooperation and Development (OECD), education must
provide students with the skills they need to become
active, responsible, and engaged citizens.
▹ This skills is all about helping the students to learn to be
more successful in the school and work. Zac Leonard
stated, "All four of these items are essential inside the
21st century classroom. All of these skills are timeless
and highly valued not only inside the classroom, but in
all professions."

Key Considerations using
Infographic
(Smiciklas, 2012)
▹
▹
▹
It is termed as “information visualization”.
▹
It contributes to the visual's organization and
readability.
It concisely and effectively conveys information.

What do you think is the
paramount result of the
4Cs ‘super skills’ to the
digital teaching and
learning process?
15
4Cs ‘super skills’ to the
digital teaching and
learning process
▹ Technology, when used strategically, can really
enhance how stakeholders support the four C’s in
the classroom.
▹ Collins (2014) explained that the help foster
higher- order thinking skills using digital tools help
students think critically, communicate,
collaborate, and be creative, which is crucial for
21st century learning.
16
“
When can you say that
digital tool is not
effective? What other
factors may contribute
and affect learning?
17
Digital tool is ineffective
when…
▹ Rosen & Samuel (2015) in their study named
Conquering digital distraction states that digital
tools became ineffective when it is not properly
utilized.
▹ This is ideally effective but not accessible for all
(Jones, 2019).
▹ Learning outcomes is not achieved.
18
factors that contribute
and affects learning
(Learning-Liftoff-Staff. 2019)
1. The Impact of Culture (communication)
▹ The majority of students learn best when
they live in a society that values not only
education but also the ability to comprehend
the subject effectively.
2. Learning Is Dynamic. (creativity)
▹ Learning never ends. After high school,
students' brains continue to grow. Research
shows that the brain develops in unique ways
depending on one's experiences (Blakemore,
2012).
19
factors that contribute
and affects learning
(Learning-Liftoff-Staff. 2019)
3. Mental Models and Learning Strategies
(critical thinking)
▹ "Mental models" are critical in the
development of knowledge and skills for
applying knowledge to real-world situations,
4. Motivation to Learn (collaboration)
▹ Giving people the opportunity to share their
work has been shown to increase social
motivation, which in turn encourages extra
effort of boosting the students ’ motivation
(Le Bouc & Pessiglione, 2013).
20
factors that contribute
and affects learning
(Learning-Liftoff-Staff. 2019)
5. The Role of Technology (digital tools)
▹ Technology in today’s education plays a
major part of teaching and learning process.
▹ The use of digital tools in education raises
concerns about how meaning is generated
in education, as well as the opportunities
and limitations (Barton 2007; Kress 2010).
21
“
As a teacher, how can
you apply this knowledge
information to maximize
learning?
22
As future educator, We can
apply this knowledge to
maximize learning,
Teachers will guide learners to develop the
skills by giving them a task or activities that
aims to use the 4c's skills and technology.
▹ Chiruguru (2020) , he stated that, "If today's
students want to compete in this global
society, they must also proficiently
communicate, creatively, think critically,
and collaborate with others effectively“ with
the integration of technology.
