PART 1. EVALUATE
1. Explain the process of investigation and applying consequences in disciplinary actions.
- First, the license or any processing of documents of the seafarer, may be suspended for a period of time, with
applying the consequences if disciplinary actions, when the investigation is done and the offense known it will have
corresponding penalty and it shall be imposed
2. Explain the process for investigating and responding to incidents of harassment and bullying.
- A report is encouraged for the seafarers, addressing the harassment and bullying need at report, it can be verbal or
written. First the company should assign a person as a reference or vouch for anyone who wishes to make a
complaint, the complainant can be anyone in the part of the crew. The company can provide option for resolving the
complaints informally, by means of explaining the perpetrator's action and to apologize whole heartedly. There's also
a consideration of using a independent third party which the complainant addresses his/her suffering and the third
party's identity must be confidential.
3. Differentiate harassment from bullying.
Bullying - is where an action to a person is hurtful either action physical or verbally by words, it can be on purpose or
not.
Harassment - is where an action to a person is not likeable, and it is offensive and it can result to intimidation or
humiliation.
PART 2. EXTEND
1. Why do you think provisions are made for harassment and bullying?
- I think it is a great provision, which helps the complainant. Harassment and bullying is bad in a workplace, because it
destroys the unity and separate the other person, with the use of provision, it helps to fix the bad behavior of a
person or group of a person,
2. As a chief officer, how would you act if your subordinate is incompetent for the job and doesn’t follow your orders?
- I will not humiliate them in front of the crew members. I Talk to them individually and tell them what they did is not
correct. I will be a listener, listen to his explanation and I will give them words motivate them, and reward them if
they accomplish their goals. Lastly, issue a warning to make them think about their actions.
