Ctrl+Space Open Chart Search. ALT Open the Epic menu. Then use the arrow keys to navigate. CTRL+[Number key] Use the buttons or menus on your main toolbar. Press CTRL and the number of the button. For example, if My Tools is the second button from the left, press CTRL+2 to open that menu. Shift+F5 See the possible values for a field with a Selection button. Tab Move to the next field or button on the page. Shift+Tab Move to the previous field or button on the page. Ctrl+Up Arrow Move left through activity tabs. Ctrl+Down Arrow Move right through activity tabs. Ctrl+Tab Move right through open workspaces. Ctrl+Shift+Tab Move left through open workspaces. Ctrl+W Close the selected workspace. Ctrl+D Open the More menu. Ctrl+Alt+S Secure your Epic session. Ctrl+Alt+L Log out of Epic. Alt+F4 Close Epic. You can also use the following standard Windows shortcuts in Epic: Shortcut Action Ctrl+A Select all text. Ctrl+C Copy selected text. Ctrl+X Cut selected text. Ctrl+V Paste selected text. Ctrl+Z Undo last action, such as restore a deleted block of text or undo your selection in a SmartList. Use repeatedly to undo more than one action. Ctrl+Y Redo the last action you undid. 2 Navigate within text Use the following keyboard shortcuts to speed up your work when writing text: Shortcut Action Down Arrow Move your cursor to the next line of text. Up Arrow Move your cursor to the previous line of text. End Move your cursor to the end of the current line of text. Home Move your cursor to the beginning of the current line of text. Ctrl+End Move your cursor to the end of the text. Ctrl+Home Move your cursor to the beginning of the text. Ctrl+Right Arrow Move your cursor to the next word. Ctrl+Left Arrow Move your cursor to the previous word. Shift+End Highlight from the cursor position to the end of the line. Shift+Home Highlight from the cursor position to the beginning of the line. Shift+Down Arrow Highlight the line below the current line. Shift+Up Arrow Highlight the line above the current line. Shift+Right Arrow Highlight one character to the right of the cursor. Shift+Left Arrow Highlight one character to the left of the cursor. Ctrl+Shift+Right Arrow Highlight from the cursor position to the end of the word. Ctrl+Shift+Left Arrow Highlight from the cursor position to the beginning of the word. Navigate an encounter with the keyboard Use the following keyboard shortcuts to move through an encounter workspace: Shortcut Action F2 Jump to the next wildcard (***) or SmartList in notes, letters, or other templates. In a SmartList, use the arrow keys to move through the list, press Space to select an item, and press Enter to move to the next list. F7 Open the previous section. F8 Open the next section. F9 Open or close the current section. 3 F5 Refresh the navigator. Shift+F7 Go to the previous section without opening it. Shift+F8 Go to the next section without opening it. Alt+Up Arrow Move to the left through the table of contents in a navigator. The selected section opens when you release the Alt key. Alt+Down Arrow Move to the right through the table of contents in a navigator. The selected section opens when you release the Alt key. CTRL+R Go to Chart Review. CTRL+PAGE UP Move through Chart Review tabs to the left. CTRL+PAGE DOWN Move through Chart Review tabs to the right. CTRL+O Jump to the Search for new orders field in the visit taskbar. CTRL+O+Enter Open your preference list to the Browse tab. Ctrl+Shift+A Jump to the Allergies section. Ctrl+Shift+C Jump to the Visit Information section. Ctrl+Shift+F Jump to the Follow-Up section. Ctrl+Shift+G Jump to Visit Diagnoses. Ctrl+Shift+H Jump to the History section. Ctrl+Shift+I Jump to the Patient Instructions section. Ctrl+Shift+L Open the LOS window. Ctrl+Shift+N Open your note. CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+N Open the latest note, written by anyone. Ctrl+Shift+O Jump to the Meds & Orders section. Ctrl+Shift+P Jump to the Problem List section. Ctrl+Shift+S Jump to the SmartSets section. Ctrl+Shift+V Jump to the Vital Signs section. CTRL+SHIFT+Y Jump to the Communications section. CTRL+SHIFT+Z Jump to the Charge Capture section. CTRL+S Open your unsigned orders, if you have any. Or, open the Sign Visit activity. CTRL+S, ALT+S Open your unsigned orders, and then sign them. CTRL+ALT+O See your signed orders. CTRL+S, ALT+V Open the Sign Visit activity (if you have no unsigned orders). Then, sign the visit. 4 Navigate In Basket with the keyboard Use the following keyboard shortcuts to navigate your In Basket: Shortcut Action Alt+Up Arrow Move up through the folder list. Alt+Down Arrow Move down through the folder list. Ctrl+T Open the Out of Contact activity. ALT+Q Open your QuickActions for the selected message. Enter Refresh or load the selected message. Delete Mark the message as Done, if possible. ALT+S Open the Search window. Select buttons and options with the keyboard Use the following keyboard shortcuts to select screen options using the keyboard instead of the mouse: Shortcut Action Alt+underlined letter Perform the action of the associated button. Often one letter or number within a particular button name appears underlined. If so, use that letter as the shortcut for the button. For example, on the Wrap-Up tab, the e in the New Communication button is underlined. Press Alt+E to activate the button and create a new communication. Spacebar Select the button or option that currently has the focus. A dark border appears around buttons or options that currently have the focus. Select more than one choice from a list Use the following techniques to select more than one option in a list. For example, in Chart Review, you might want to select four different encounters to review. Shortcut Action Shift+click Select a continuous range of entries from the list. While holding down Shift on the keyboard, use your mouse to select an upper and lower bound. All entries between your two selections are highlighted. For example, use this technique to select rows 1 through 12 in a list. Ctrl+click Select two or more individual entries from the list. While holding down Ctrl on the keyboard, use your mouse to select each entry. For example, use this technique to select rows 1, 7, and 12 in a list. While still holding down the Ctrl key, click an entry again to clear it. 5 Enter dates and times using shortcuts Use the following conventions to enter dates and times in Epic: Convention Function t Today. Use this to indicate today's date. You can also use this as a relative date. For example, for today's date, enter "t." For tomorrow's date, enter "t+1." w Week. Use this for relative dates. For example, for two weeks ago, enter"w-2." m Month. Use this for relative dates. For example, to for five months from now, enter "m+5." y Year. Use this for relative dates. For example, for one year ago, enter "y-1." n Now. Use this to indicate the current time. You can also use this for relative times.
