Dear Parent(s)/ Guardian(s),
If you are receiving this letter, it is because Mr. Sanchez and I have witnessed your child struggle in
math class. Despite our attempts to create multiple ways for your child to get support, your child is still
struggling with many of the basic concepts. We are currently on our 3rd unit in the year and much of what we
are doing is still a review from middle school with a little bit of a high school twist on some of the topics. If
your child is struggling now with many of the topics that were supposed to be learned in middle school, there is
cause for deep concern when the new material is taught later on in the year. We have intentionally held off on
the most challenging topics for the second semester.
Art and Design is unique in that we offer a two-year Geometry class that slows down the pacing and
allows more time to be spent on building necessary foundational skills. Without these skills, the rest of
geometry becomes very difficult to master. While your child may or may not be failing, we believe that having
your child switch to a two-year Geometry course would allow them to strengthen their base and make them
more successful in the long run.
In order to graduate from high school, all students need 6 semesters of math credit. If your child takes
Geometry for 2 years, that is 4 semesters worth of credit. If your child stays in one-year Geometry and does not
pass, summer school or PM school would be required to make up the credits. In addition, Algebra 2, which
follows geometry, is a much more challenging math course that requires a very strong understanding of Algebra
and Geometry in order to pass. If your child is able to build up a stronger foundation in a two-year Geometry
class, we believe that it will be easier to take Algebra 2 having established a stronger foundation.

If you would like to have your child enroll in the two-year Geometry class, please check and sign the
correspondence below. If you have any more questions, please feel free to email them to me and/or Mr.
Sanchez. We want your children to be as successful in math as possible and would not recommend this course
of action if we didn't think it was for the long-term good of your child.

Si está recibiendo esta carta, es porque el Sr. Sánchez y yo hemos sido testigos de la dificultad de su hijo en la
clase de matemáticas. A pesar de nuestros intentos de crear múltiples formas para que su hijo obtenga apoyo, su
hijo todavía está luchando con muchos de los conceptos básicos. Actualmente estamos en nuestra tercera unidad
en el año y mucho de lo que estamos haciendo todavía es una revisión de la escuela intermedia con un pequeño
giro de la escuela secundaria en algunos de los temas. Si su hijo está luchando ahora con muchos de los temas
que se suponía que debían aprender en la escuela secundaria, hay un motivo de profunda preocupación cuando
el nuevo material se enseña más adelante en el año. Intencionalmente nos hemos retenido en los temas más
desafiantes para el segundo semestre.
Arte y diseño es único en el sentido de que ofrecemos una clase de geometría de dos años que ralentiza el ritmo
y permite dedicar más tiempo a desarrollar las habilidades fundamentales necesarias. Sin estas habilidades, el
resto de la geometría se vuelve muy difícil de dominar. Si bien su hijo puede estar fallando o no, creemos que
hacer que su hijo cambie a un curso de Geometría de dos años le permitirá fortalecer su base y hacer que tenga
más éxito a largo plazo.
Para graduarse de la escuela secundaria, todos los estudiantes necesitan 6 semestres de crédito en matemáticas.
Si su hijo toma Geometría durante 2 años, eso equivale a 4 semestres de crédito. Si su hijo permanece en
Geometría por un año y no aprueba, se requerirá la escuela de verano o la escuela PM para recuperar los
créditos. Además, Álgebra 2, que sigue a la geometría, es un curso de matemáticas mucho más desafiante que
requiere una comprensión muy sólida de Álgebra y Geometría para aprobar. Si su hijo puede construir una base
más sólida en una clase de geometría de dos años, creemos que será más fácil tomar Álgebra 2 después de haber
establecido una base más sólida.
Si desea que su hijo se inscriba en la clase de geometría de dos años, verifique y firme la correspondencia a
