Teacher’s Guide
Lauren Tarshis’ “I Survived” series is a great mix of non-fiction and fiction. All of the
stories are built on true historic events. At the end of every book, she writes
directly to the reader on her purpose for writing and gives a good deal of factual
historic information.
Everything that your student needs to complete this brochure is included in the
book. The factual questions are in the back of the book. The character
summaries, plotline, and imagery are found within the story.
Printing and Organization:
The brochure should be printed on both sides. To print, choose just the two pages
of the brochure. Click the box to print on both sides, then make sure to select “flip
on short edge.”
Helpful Tip: Colored pencils or crayons are better than markers for this project to
avoid ink coming through the other side.
If you are creating this foldable to include in an interactive notebook, pockets
(on Slide 4) have been included – 2 per page to save paper. These brochures
can also be kept in a 6 x 9 envelope if your students work on several of these
throughout the year.

Cut out this brochure pocket. When gluing to your notebook, use small
dots to only go around ¾ of the perimeter. Leave the top
open so that you can insert your brochure.
