Guidelines for Community Participation and High Visibility Eligibility for NEF and FYF requires students to be highly visible and participatory in Norlin activities – especially our academic activities. We’re looking for deep, ongoing involvement and engagement in the community rather than just showing up for social events. Studying in the lounge doesn’t qualify. These are just some of the ways to be visible in the Norlin community and the more you do on an ongoing basis, the better your prospects. Visibility and participation are not limited to these items and it’s up to you to track your own participation in both the Norlin and SUEP community. Letters of interest should provide as much detail as possible so name the cultural event or activity, say when you did it and so on. The same goes for any faculty presentations, alumni events, etc. Attending Shakespeare Festival in summer with new scholars Coming to the SUEP retreat after the first year Attending Welcome Back events Attending family weekend events (with or without family) Participating in SUEP workshops and/or collaborations with other departments Participating in SUEP focus groups or other spontaneous activities Serving as a volunteer or second time presenter at the SUEP conference Attending SUEP cultural events Attending cohort meetings Mentoring or tutoring other Norlin or Boettcher scholars Serving as a learning assistant in NRLN 2000, having an SUEP internship or being an SUEP ambassador Playing music for an SUEP event Contributing artwork to the seminar room gallery Working at recruitment events Keeping SUEP up to date on what’s happening for you with individual meetings or written communications Attending Alumni events Coming to the Norlin Graduation Tea (you don’t need to be graduating to attend) Inventing, creating or implementing activities of possible interest for our students (examples: poetry readings, study abroad or other info sessions) Providing leadership in the community Norlin Scholar Enrichment Funding/Fifth Year Funding Participation Tracking Form FIRST YEAR Semester Date Activity Name Description SECOND YEAR Semester Date Activity Name Description THIRD YEAR Semester Date Activity Name Description FOURTH YEAR Semester Date Activity Name *Rising Juniors use first & second years only* Description
