Job Purpose
To support the Information Systems Team with the delivery of reporting and information services,
including database development, SQL-based report writing and information analysis.
To support and configure reporting solutions, data warehouses, data marts and data sources to meet
business needs for transactional, management and decision support information.
To ensure these activities contribute to the security, reliability and data quality of core business
information systems.
To identify and deliver improvements and enhancements through controlled change management
processes to improve the delivery of information services to NETSCC.
To participate (where required) in NETSCC-wide projects, and to support the continual review of
information needs across NETSCC, NIHR and DH whilst also ensuring, accordingly, that existing
information related standards and policies are up to date and being met.
To support the delivery of the NETSCC Information Strategy and to support NETSCC in using
information to underpin its ‘Needs Led Science Added’ values.
To work with other members of the team to deliver a quality service (and provide cover for them), with
the objective of allowing the team to continue to meet business needs when other supporting roles are
unavailable or require additional capacity to deliver a high priority task.

Key Accountabilities/Primary Responsibilities

To support delivery of the NETSCC Information Strategy and to participate in operational
implementation of the business plan. To support the development of IT policies and procedures
in this area which support broader NETSCC policies.

To support NETSCC in capturing the information and reporting needs of users in all areas of the
NETSCC business

To develop analytical reports and dashboards, including visualisations and underlying data
models to give internal and external users insights into the NETSCC business.

To transform data into decision support information, with particular emphasis on graphical
presentation, and publishing appropriate information to external websites.

To use of prototyping techniques to help articulate and confirm requirements.

To work with staff to ensure input and maintenance of high quality data, and provide reports on
the status of data quality to steer corrective remedial action.

To provide technical input to assist NETSCC and iSolutions on the relevance and suitability of
emerging technical and operational standards. To help identify gaps that the market place
cannot fill and to suggest ideas of alternative solutions to a market approach as needed.

To participate in the specification and implementation of projects within NETSCC, which lead to
new services (or enhancement of existing services). Examples include data quality, business
intelligence.

To participate in the implementation, configuration and documentation of relevant specialist
tools, applications, equipment and training.

To support the integration of new services with other products and services delivered to
NETSCC. (Examples include document management and customer relationship management
systems.)

To undertake any other duties as required by the Director of Operations.
Analysis and reporting

To work closely with members of the Information Systems Team to develop
transactional, management information and decision support reporting.

To evolve the design of the reporting data warehouse to meet the current and future
needs of the business, including requirements elicitation, data modeling and analyzing
sources of data.

To implement and provide knowledge of technical best working practices in coding and
development.

To maintain documentation including data mapping and data dictionaries to assist with
delivering effective reporting.

To identify issues with data quality and work with business users to implement
resolutions.

To contribute to the delivery of the Information Strategy such that NETSCC is able to
maximise business benefits from its information assets, maintain the quality and
security of such assets, and respond flexibly to challenges and opportunities.

To deliver in-house training sessions and support end-users in their use of NETSCC
reporting solutions.
Liaison
 To work productively with other iSolutions staff as part of an integrated team, so that NETSCC
information management is developed within the University-wide framework appropriately
adapted to local needs.

To support work with suppliers to help establish robust working relationships based on clearly
defined service levels and standards, working practices and change management procedures.

To work with other staff within NETS programmes to understand their database and information
needs and support the team in factoring these into the Information Strategy, business planning
and budgeting.

To work with external staff, for example at DH or NIHR, to provide information as appropriate
and to be aware of DH guidance on matters such as the Data Protection Act.

Qualifications/Knowledge:
Essential
Degree or equivalent qualification
and/or experience in a
technical/numerate subject

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft

Prince 2 and/or ITIL
qualification
Knowledge of at least one other
common programming language
