DC Motor
Drive setup
The kit includes a base to hold machines (workstation), a
Synchronous generator and a prime-mover, a
synchronous motor, an AC induction motor (wound and
squirrel cage rotors) single and three phases machines,
Permanent Magnet brushless DC motor, DC motor with
brushes, couplings, connectors, DC power supplies and
single and 3-Phase power supplies to drive the motors.
Load torque, three phase Resistive, Inductive, and
Capacitive loads. AC and DC current and voltage
meters, speed meters, single and three phase watt-meters,
power factor meter, torque meters. Note that all
connecting cables are with safety plugs, and connectors
should be included. The setup should have all safety and
protection features.
The setup enables studying a DC motor Drive. It has
all safety and protection features and manuals. The
setup allows the following :
 Experimenting open and closed loop control of a DC
motor.
 Operation of a DC machine in various operating
modes
 operation in constant power and constant torque
regions
 Experimental investigation of various methods for
controlling speed and direction of rotation
 Introduction to various types of speed regulation and
reversal: field weakening, modification by means of
armature and field resistors
 Introduction to different methods of braking DC
machines,
 Measurement of current and voltage when braking DC
machines
 Clarification of the importance of temperature
monitoring for electrical machines
 Temperature measurement in the exciter winding
when a machine is running.
