Virtual Cardiologist Lab
Objective: SWBAT diagnose two virtual patients with cardiovascular diseases.
Standard: HS-ETS1-4: Use a computer simulation to model the impact of proposed solutions to a
complex real-world problem (heart disease).
Step 1: Click here http://www.hhmi.org/biointeractive/cardiology-virtual-lab
Step 2: Intro Cardiology Lab Introduction - Directions: Read and FILL-IN the blanks below.
Welcome to the Virtual Cardiology Lab! The focus of this lab is on heritable (DNA passed from parents to
child) diseases of the heart. You are cast here as a virtual intern to accompany a doctor examining
different patients. Each patient is examined, using more than
diagnostic tool, and
at each stage, the doctor will invite you to examine the patient yourself and ask for your opinion.
Making a diagnosis is, in many respects, like ________________________________________________work. You gather
clues using a variety of techniques and form a coherent picture, taking into account both the power and
the limitations of the techniques used and building on current knowledge of diseases and their
symptoms. Since your teacher assumes you are a______________________________________and not a doctor, you’re
the website has provided you with information to help familiarize you with basic facts about the heart
and heart diseases, medical terminology, and available diagnostic tools.
