Ancient Chinese Dynasty “Snow Globe”
Project Description:
For this project student will be divided up into five
dynasty groups:
Shang Dynasty
1766-1122 BCE
Zhou (Chou) Dynasty
1122-221 BCE
Qin (Chin) Dynasty
221-207 BCE
Han Dynasty
202 BCE-220 CE
Tang Dynasty
618-907 CE
Within your group you will individually be
assigned a topic. The questions for your topic
should be answered on an index card. After you
have answered your questions, you must create an
artifact for your dynasty’s “snow globe” based on
your topic.
Index Card Questions:
Once the overview topic has been selected you will use the resources that follow in order to answer all
questions under your topic. Your final write up will be on a large 5x7 index card. Do not write more than can
fit on the front of the index card. You will need to keep track of your sources and include a bibliography. This
information will be written on the back of your index card. You may choose to type your information first and
then cut and paste it to the index card. DO NOT cut and paste from websites. You need to put things in your
own words.
ECONOMY
Silk Road (Han and Tang Dynasty Only)
1. Why was the Silk Road important?
2. Why is it called the Silk Road?
3. How did they travel along it?
4. List 2 fun facts about the Silk Road.
GOVERNMENT
1. What type of government did they have?
2. Name the rulers of this dynasty and one thing they are known for.
3. Explain whether or not the dynasty had any influence outside China and whether or not they
expanded or unified China.
SOCIAL STRUCTURE
1. Name and explain the levels of society for this civilization.
2. Describe the role of women and children in society.
3. Name something unique about the Chinese social structure that differs from the other River
Valley Civilizations.
TECHNOLOGY
1. Name and describe at least 2 Ancient Chinese contributions/inventions.
2. Choose one of them and explain how it made an impact globally, not just in China.
ART and LITERATURE
1. Explain any arts (architecture, poetry, painting, pottery, music, textiles) that developed.
2. Explain these arts may have been used and/or affected people’s everyday lives.
RELIGION/PHILOSOPHY
1. Name and describe the belief system(s) during this dynasty.
2. Name any founders of new philosophies or religions.
Snow Globe/Artifact:
In addition to the index card, you must create a small artifact pertaining to your question/answer that will fit in
the “snow globe”. You will create one snow globe per group. Mrs. Hawthorne will provide the necessary
materials for your “snow globe.”
