Lesson Plan (High School)
Lesson Title: Imaging Literature
Grade Levels: 10th
Approximate Duration: 90 minutes
Content Standards: Read and comprehend complex text and literary elements in a text
(symbolism).
Lesson Plan:
1. Using the attached chart, you will complete a visual representation of a story, book,
play, or poem. In the first column, you will list items and ideas from the story which are
important to the message of the story. The three remaining columns of the chart are
for you to fill in with explanations of your work as you do this assignment.
2. For each item or idea listed in column one of the chart, you are to choose a color of
construction paper and a shape that are appropriate to represent the symbolism of the
idea/item. You must explain your choices in the appropriate box on the chart. No color
or shape may be repeated within the chart, so choose carefully!
3. One of the items must serve as the background for your entire visual product. It is your
choice as to which item this must be, but make certain that item is the largest in shape
when you make your creation. The other items will be placed ON the background item.
The placement that you choose for each item (including the background item) must be
explained in the placement column of the chart.
