Indian Ridge Middle Safety and Emergency Plan 2015-2016 Emergency Codes O Code 36 O Code Blue O Code Red O Code Yellow O Code Black O Visitor/ Intruder Plan O Fire Drills O Tornado Drills Code 36 O Students Fighting, Students running away from school staff, etc… O Exact location of event should be given. O All security and administration should report to the incident, EXCEPT IF YOU ARE ON CAFETERIA DUTY. O An “All Clear” indication should be given before normal radio communication is resumed. Code Blue Medical Emergency O Immediately notify the front office with your O O O O name & the location of the student/staff that is sick or injured. Describe the nature of the illness/injury. State the student’s name and grade (if known) or the staff member’s name. Do not move or leave the person until assistance arrives. The administrator in charge will determine the course of action to be taken. Fire Event/Drill O Adhere to the posted evacuation route listed in your classroom. If the designated route is not possible, assess the situation and exercise your best judgment. O Ensure students evacuate in a quick and orderly manner. O Students must be at least 50 feet from building and should be assembled in an orderly manner. O Take your class roster to ensure all students are present & accounted for. Fire Event/Drill O Wait for the “All Clear” bell to ring before entering the building. O Please do your best to convey to your students the importance of exiting the building quickly and in an orderly manner. Tornado Event/Drill O A warning announcement will commence on the PA system stating: “Tornado Drill-all students and staff are to report to their assigned areas and assume the protective position”. O Teachers in all buildings should have students move away from windows and have students face the interior wall in a protective posture position. Tornado Event/Drill O Teachers in portables are to bring students in to the building at the nearest entry point. O Go down the hall and have your students assume a protective posture position along the wall. Students should remain silent. O PE teachers are to bring students in to the gym and have students assume a protective posture position. CODE RED O During a Code Red, an announcement will be made stating: “Teachers and Students, we are implementing a Code Red”. O Conduct a visual sweep of the hallway once the call has been made and bring in any students or staff to your room. O All students are to remain in the room and the doors should immediately be locked. O The students must be ABSOLUTELY SILENT and all INSTRUCTION CEASES. CODE RED O ALL STUDENTS MUST BE MOVED FROM WINDOWS & THE SIGHT LINE OF THE DOOR WINDOW and be POSITIONED IN A HUDDLED MASS ON THE GROUND WITH THE LIGHTS OFF. IT IS CRITICAL TO GIVE THE APPEARANCE OF AN EMPTY ROOM. O THERE SHOULD BE NO INSTRUCTION OR ACTIVITIES TAKING PLACE-TOTAL SILENCE. O Do not leave your room unless you are instructed to do so by law enforcement or school staff. O An announcement will be made when the Code Red is over. CODE YELLOW O During a Code Yellow, an announcement will be made stating: “Teachers and Students, we are implementing a Code Yellow”. O Conduct a visual sweep of the hallway once the call has been made and bring in any student that is in the hallway. O All students are to remain in the room and the doors should immediately be locked. CODE YELLOW O INSTRUCTION AND ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES CAN TAKE PLACE. O There is NO MOVEMENT in the halls-UNLESS INSTRUCTED TO DO SO BY ADMINISTRATION. O All exterior doors and gates will be locked. O An announcement will be made when the Code Yellow has ended. CODE BLACK O In the event of a bomb threat, an announcement will be made stating: “We will be implementing a Code Black”. O The fire alarm may or may not ring. O Staff that supervises fire drills will visually scan their zones & teachers should visually scan their classroom before exiting-LOOK FOR ITEMS THAT ARE OUT OF PLACE OR OUT OF THE ORDINARY. O Students must evacuate the room with their book bags, purses, and backpacks. CODE BLACK O Any strange object should be reported to O O O O Administration or Security immediately. Never move or touch a suspicious item. Leave computers on in the classroom or lab. Evacuate your students to your designated “on campus” student assembly zone. Be sure to have your class roster and teacher name placard. CODE BLACK O In the event the civil authorities determine that a evacuation off campus is required, follow your prescribed route to the access road (13th street) that leads to Fox Trail Elementary (across Nob Hill Road). O Once off campus and assembled, take attendance, account for all students, and supervise your students. Report any missing students to administration or security. CODE BLACK O If the civil authorities determine that the school unsafe for return, then “parent reunification” measures will be enacted. O If for some reason your evacuation route to Fox Trail is not accessible, use your best judgment to get your students off campus to the “off campus” assembly area. O Be certain to read the “Code Black” memorandum. CODE ORANGE O In the event a chemical/gas leak or spill, an announcement will be made stating “We are implementing a Code Orange”. O Staff and students are to directly evacuate to the staging area on the access road leading to Fox Trail. O Once assembled at Fox Trail, account for and supervise your students. O Civil authorities will make a determination when it is safe to return to school. SCHOOL VISITORS O Procedures are set forth for all visitors, vendors, & district staff to check in at the front office. O All non-staff members should have some of visible identification badge or visitor pass on them. O If you suspect a person does not belong in the building or does not have an identification badge contact Administration, Security, or the SRO immediately. COLORED CODED BADGES O Visitors to Indian Ridge will be issued O O O O O O colored coded ID badges for each day of the week. Monday-Red Tuesday-Yellow Wednesday-Blue Thursday-Green Friday-Lavender District issued volunteer badges-White GENERAL SAFETY REMINDERS O Classroom and portable doors should O O O O remain locked at all times. Refrain from propping your door open. ID badges should be worn at all times. In any incident or drill, always follow the instructions of an administrator or the civil authority (police/fire). THE SAFETY & SECURITY OF THE STUDENTS & STAFF IS OUR FIRST PRIORITY.
