A Guide for Parent/Carer Helper
Please bring 2 loaves of bread and butter and sufficient fruit/veg for 24 children
(numbers of children will be advised each term)
9.15 – 10.30
Join the children in the hall/garden
The Supervisor will let you know about the day’s activities, explain
the fire drill and ask you to sign the Visitors Book
10.30 – 10.50
Go into the kitchen to prepare the snack.
Place the following on the serving hatch for staff to take
thorough:
Cleaning products
 a cloth
 anti-bacterial spray
Drinks and fruit/veg
 half-filled jugs of water (1 per table)
 half-filled jugs of milk (1 per table)
 1 extra pint of milk
 tray of the plastic pre-school cups with handles (the staff will let
you know how many children are in that day)
 Chopped up fruit and veg on plastic plates (grapes must be halved).
1 plate and 1 plastic knife per child
For staff
 hot drinks for the adults (see the list to the left of the hatch)
 a few slices of toast !
Prepare 1 slice of toast per child (cut in half) and place the toast on the
blue trays/large blue plastic plates.
10.50 ->
Once the children are all sitting at the table and are eating the fruit,
come into the Hall and take the toast around with your child.
Take the second piece round as soon as a few have finished the first (we
are trying to shorten snack time – children can always take another piece
and put in front of them if they haven’t finished)
Clearing away Once the children have got down from the tables:
 clear the tables
 clean the tables and wipe over with the anti-bac spray
 wash up the snack things, dry and put away in the cupboards
 tidy up the kitchen
 Clean any paint/craft pots etc (in the ‘dirty sink’)
 empty the bin (but do not put outside until the session ends)
 sweep the kitchen and foyer floors
Please do not open any of the fire doors during the session
(except during an emergency evacuation)
Fire Evacuation Procedure
If the fire bell sounds whilst you are in the kitchen exit the building via the
kitchen door and meet the Supervisor and children at the assembly point (the
garden wall).
If you are in the main hall leave with the Supervisor and children via the fire
door in the main hall.
