It is estimated that up to
10,000 Aussies head
overseas each year seeking
cheaper dental alternatives
and dentists are now warning
us against the increasing
trend of travelling to Asia in an
effort to save money on dental
treatment with the caution that
fixing shoddy workmanship will end up costing more in the long run.
The Australian Dental Association fears people are falling victim to
underqualified, unsafe practitioners. The association's Leonard
Crocombe said “while some of the work might look good in the short
term, patients were likely to have trouble in the future and it can be six
months, 12 months after the treatment has been done, long after
they've left the facilities and then things flare up on them.” (Baines R,
2015)
If you have any concerns about work that you may have had done
overseas, do not hesitate to contact us at any one of our three

Orthodontics
Orthodontic treatment can improve the
appearance, health and function of the
teeth and jaws. Orthodontics means
“straight teeth” and is the branch of
dentistry that deals with the diagnosis,
prevention and treatment of problems in the
alignment of teeth and jaws.
Orthodontic treatment involves the use of
corrective appliances including braces,
plates, or Invisalign and these appliances move the teeth by exerting
gentle forces on them.
Full treatment can take 18-24 months. In most cases the best time to
start treatment is when all the baby teeth are gone, but adults can be
treated as well. At the completion of treatment retaining appliances
(retainers) are fitted to hold and support the teeth in their new position.
Please come ask one of our dentists about orthodontics for you or your
children.

Natal Teeth and Neonatal Teeth – was you child
born with teeth?
Natal teeth are teeth that are
present in the mouth at birth,
whereas neonatal teeth are
teeth that erupt within the first
30 days of life.
While the exact cause is not
known, it is believed that the
tooth simply develops in an
abnormal position that is
much closer to the surface of
the gums.
Natal teeth occur in
approximately 1 in 716 births
and 85% of all natal teeth are
lower central incisors, 11%
are upper incisors, 3% are
lower canines and molars, while 1% of natal teeth are upper canines
and molars.
Many times, parents don’t need to do anything regarding the teeth,
they can simply relish the fact that they don’t have to go through the
teething process for the natal teeth!
We look forward to providing you with more information in our winter
edition. From the team at the Oral Experts Group!
