At Kansas State University, four board certified small animal surgeons are supported by three surgical residents and senior veterinary students. The surgery services are divided into orthopedic and general surgery services. Surgeons operate within four spacious surgery suites with accompanying anesthetic induction and recovery units. One suite is designated for minimally invasive C-arm fluoroscopic, laparoscopic, and arthroscopic procedures. Surgical equipment is available to provide a complete range of surgical procedures for orthopedic, neurologic and general surgery. The Small Animal Surgery service operates within the Veterinary Health Center, a fully-staffed 24-hour clinical veterinary hospital that provides state-of-theart veterinary care for small animal patients. Surgical patients benefit from access to other services within the hospital including: • a 24-hour staffed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) • a complete radiology service including ultrasound, fluoroscopy, MRI and CT staffed by radiology specialists • an internal medicine service available for consultation • oncology service which can provide chemotherapeutic and radiation therapy support for surgical oncology patients Long track record of successful board certification. Our last 14 residents in a row, spanning 19 years, have passed the ACVS examination on their first attempt.
