It’s with great pleasure we extend a invitation to you and your family to visit Bangalore,
garden city & Electronic hub and participate in this conference KHSLA-2012 to be held
on January 27-28, 2012 at KMIO, Bangalore. This conference will be an important
forum for discussions and deliberations, platform for Health Science
library &
information Science Professionals. On the academic front, Bangalore excels in Basic
research, Information Technology and Biotechnology. “The eye of the pupil has never
seen a place like it and the ear of intelligence has never been informed that there existed
anything to equal it in the world”
Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology (KMIO)
KMIO is an Autonomous Institution member of U.I.C.C. affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi
University of Health Sciences and recognized as Regional Centre for Cancer Treatment
and Research by Government of India as an Institute of excellence. It is one of the
leading Regional Centres for Cancer Research and Treatment providing comprehensive
and multi-disciplinary care of the
ailing cancer patient.
The Institute has well equipped departments of Diagnostic & Surgical, Medical,
Gynecology and Head & Neck Oncology on the therapeutic side. The Population Based
Cancer Registry and Hospital Based Cancer Registry departments collate statistics
regarding current trends and prevalence of cancer. Community Oncology and Mobile
Cancer Detection and Education Units provide services to the general, public.
Dharmashala provides free accommodation and food for ambulatory cancer patients.
Hospice and pain relief units provide palliative care. The rehabilitation units comprise
Speech Therapy, Clinical psychology, Colostomy & Breast care Units. It also houses the
Bhabha Atomic Research Centre Unit, a Regional Centre for dispensing and distribution
of Radio-pharmaceuticals. The Radiological Dosimetry Laboratory in the department of
Radiation Physics provides Calibration of dosimeters to other Cancer Institute of India.
LIBRARY, KMIO
The Library and Information Centre, KMIO has good Collection, Organization,
Document delivery Service, Current Awareness Service, Selective Dissemination
Service and Photocopy Services, Computer based Information System & Services. It
facilitates good Inter Library Loan with Resource Sharing Facility with all Oncology
speciality Institutions in the Country.
KHSLA
Karnataka Health Sciences Library Association ® (KHSLA) earlier known as Karnataka
Medical Library Association (KMLA) was established during 1999, expanded to have
broader perspective and to include all health sciences institutions, affiliated to Rajiv
Gandhi University of Health Sciences and other Deemed Universities in Karnataka State.
The Association has successfully conducted three Annual Conferences at various cities.
The KHSLA has been actively involved in imparting training for Health Sciences
Librarian’s,to keep them abreast with latest knowledge and information Technology.
About the Conference:
There have been many deliberations about survival of traditional library and moving
towards web-based libraries. At the same time, no one can abandon traditional library at
once, particularly library as a place and the print collection. Web environment
supplement and compliment existing library system. Hence the sub-theme is aimed at the
library-building, link between print and electronic collections, developing repositories of
internal resources and librarian’s role in digital environment. In 21st Century, medical
libraries are recognized as a vital part of the learning and health care system in which
librarians are in the front-seat for evidence-based approach. The seminar is to work out
futuristic plan, keeping the changing perception of users and technology.
Theme: “Transformation of Health Sciences Libraries in Web Environment”
Sub-Themes:

Library- from physical space to digital space
•
Hybrid library – linking print resources to web –based resources
•
Library/information system to knowledge based system
•
Shift from collection based library to service based library
•
Integration of library system with clinical system
Submission Guidelines:
•
Original paper on the above themes and sub themes are invited,
•
The papers should be submitted electronically
•
The paper should consists of Title of the Paper, name(s) of the author/s
and their address with e-mail ID
•
Abstract should be of 150-200 words followed by at least 5 keywords,
Full Text References.

All the Papers should be MS word single spaced, 12 points font size,
Times New Roman not exceeding 3000-5000 words.
