Dear Dr. Nick Luden and the James Madison University Graduate Kinesiology Department,
After looking at various Master’s programs in Exercise Physiology, I became very excited
to see that James Madison University offers this program. I became passionate about exercise
physiology when I was able to take a class about it during my junior year at Bridgewater
College. I loved being able to connect what I had learned in human physiology to practical
applications that I will be using in my field one day.
I will graduate from Bridgewater College in May of 2017 with a degree in Health and
Exercise Science. My goal is to one day work part time as a cardiac rehabilitator while teaching
classes to future healthcare providers at a college or university. Throughout my studies at
Bridgewater I have been exposed to many aspects of healthcare that I have a passion for, such
as the cardiac system, neurology, healthcare promotion, and global health. I have also held
many leadership positions that have allowed me to gain confidence in my relationships I have
with others, a strength that I value immensely.
Ultimately, my strongest passion is learning about the heart and how to properly care
for it. On my mother’s side of the family there is a family history of heart conditions, such as
heart attacks, aortic valve replacements, and heart disease. After my grandmother had her
aortic valve replaced during the summer of 2015, I became interested in learning more about
the heart, how to care for it, and how to rehabilitate it after surgery. I want to obtain my
Clinical Exercise Physiologist certification and become a rehab specialist for those with cardiac
needs. like to enter the academic world and teach classes on exercise physiology, kinesiology,
and global healthcare at a college or university. After having an excellent experience with my
professors at Bridgewater, I have been inspired to teach the next generation of healthcare
providers. By attending a graduate school such as JMU for a Master’s in Exercise Physiology, I
am confident that I will be able to achieve my goals.
