abc JOB DESCRIPTION 1. JOB DETAILS Job Holder. Job Title Registered Midwife Grade Band 6 Directorate Clinical Support and Family Services Location Maternity Services 2. JOB PURPOSE AND FREEDOM TO ACT You will ensure the provision of safe, clinically effective, evidence based individualized care to all women who are either planning a pregnancy, during the course of pregnancy, labour or post-partum period. To respond to the needs of the neonate and the family members, providing support and advice based upon current research and public health agenda. The midwife will take charge of the ward/department, in the absence of more senior staff. As an NMC registrant facilitate learning and development of all staff and students. You will demonstrate strong leadership qualities and be open, transparent and trustworthy. As a Trust employee act with integrity and uphold the values and beliefs of the Trust and the NMC Code of Conduct. 3. SCOPE OF THE JOB You will be expected to provide woman focused and family centred midwifery care within the Maternity Unit or Primary Care setting. They will be required to work in all areas of the service including obstetric theatre and the community as necessary. The midwife will be committed to achieving the Trust’s targets regarding the Government’s public health agenda. Information resources: It is your professional responsibility to document care given, supervise the documentation others record and in adherence to the NMC standards for record keeping ensure patient records are accurate. Human Resources: As an NMC registrant you will continually work towards professional development, support, mentor, supervise and teach junior staff, teach others including Maternity Care assistants, pre and post registration students, newly qualified midwives and newly appointed staff. You will actively seek feedback on your performance, contribute to your appraisals and provide constructive feedback to those you supervise. You will keep staff records up to date. As a senior member of the ward team you will develop a good understanding of HR processes in order to manage the performance of yourself, individuals and the team. QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALITIES Qualifications Experience Skills Personal Qualities Registered Midwife (Diploma/Degree in Midwifery Studies - now usually obtained during RM training is preferable) or Equivalent experience 2 years post registration Midwifery experience including 12 months preceptorship. Evidence of personal and professional development that will support the registered midwife role. Perineal suturing and cannulation skills to provide holistic intrapartum care Able to demonstrate sound clinical knowledge and the ability to make clinical decisions based on this knowledge, referring to the Lead Midwife Practitioner for guidance and support when appropriate. There will be situations in which you will deal with uncontained body fluids and foul linen. The post holder may experience some verbal aggression. Physical Effort There will be an infrequent requirement to exert moderate physical effort in the event that moving a patient to another area of the service quickly. This includes moving and handling of patients, and delivery of direct patient care. Mental Effort There will be a frequent requirement for concentration in an unpredictable work pattern consisting of competing demands for attention, changes of activity and frequent interruptions. Emotional Effort There will be frequent exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances which includes caring for the bereaved women and their families. 8.
