SQL Application Database Administrator Job Description and Skills Matrix Job Title Type Reports To (title) Department Working Hours Base Office SQL Application Database Administrator Full Time Production Systems Manager Technical Operations 4pm – 1am Kuala Lumpur Job Summary The primary role of SQL Application Database Administrator at Tungsten Network is responsible for the administration of SQL databases. This will include maintenance, security administration, performance monitoring and tuning, backup and recovery of databases to ensure the availability, integrity, confidentiality and security of information. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. DBA will support operation and provide database-related assistance to end users and application developers. The secondary role of SQL Application Database Administrator at Tungsten Network also responsible for supporting existing infrastructure and applications at Tungsten Network. The key focus is root-cause analysis of reported issues and the identification of related fixes, workarounds, and long-term solutions in conjunction with relevant teams. The role is full time and reports to Technical Operations Manager and would suit an organized, practical and adaptable person with desire to grow and develop technical skills in a fast growing global company. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manage SQL Server databases on mission-critical production systems. Ensure maximum database availability, performance and security by utilizing best industry practices. Create queries, stored procedures, functions and other database objects. Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, and code comments. Respond to database operational emergencies as required, including database recoveries involving the use of database log files, which provide for the recovery of databases with no loss of data and do not require the user to re-enter data into the database. Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end. Provide support to internal business users performing problem investigations on issues reported through ticketing system. Understand Tungsten Network applications workflow and know how to utilize tools to investigate problems reported in each. Ability to use log aggregation tools such as Splunk or track errors through raw logs (tail/grep) is key. Analysis and resolution of user issues in a timely manner, documenting and escalating unresolved problems to the relevant team, as necessary. Identifies potential system wide issues ensuring timely notification to manager. Ability to spot patterns and automate repetitive tasks. Ensures customer satisfaction through meeting established service level standards and prioritizing and tracking customer issues through to resolution 1|Page Acquire and maintains knowledge of relevant products and support methods to provide technically accurate solutions to internal users in plain English. Education Required Bachelors/A Level or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology or similar Experience Required 2-3 years administrating Windows Production Environments 2-3 years’ commercial experience as SQL Server Database Administrator Ability to write Window scripts to support database maintenance. Experience in query optimization and database performance tuning. Exposure to and understanding of application logic Experience documenting new and existing processes as well as updating existing documentation when changes are necessary. Optional Experience in software development Experience in accounts payable or finance will be advantage Personal Attributes Organized – Able to keep track of an environment with many different workflows across heterogeneous systems. Detail Oriented – Able to identify relevant information out of a broad expanse of available documentation and logging. Knowledgeable – Familiar with a broad set of IT concepts (networking, Windows, Linux) yet not necessarily a master of all of them.
