Broadway Comes to the Gold Coast
A taste of Broadway is set to hit the Gold Coast on August 9… when Spotlight Theatre
draws the curtain for its premiere production of the comedy smash-hit, THE
PRODUCERS: The New Mel Brooks Musical.
It’s the first time Gold Coast audiences will see the production live.
But… musical enthusiasts may be familiar with the 2005 movie adaptation starring
Will Ferrell and Uma Thurman.
Critically acclaimed, THE PRODUCERS is the most awarded show in Broadway
history winning 12 Tony awards, 11 Drama Desk awards, and 8 Outer Critic Circle
awards.
The show is a charade of kick lines of singing Nazis, sequins, show tunes, oversexed
old ladies, homosexuals, and hilarious comic timing
It follows the story of a washed-up producer, Max Bialistock who’s desperately trying to
make another Broadway hit… but instead he’s riddled with flop after flop.
And when nervous accountant Leo Bloom comes along… they hatch a plan to make
some money out of a Broadway flop!
By combining the worst play ever written, Springtime for Hitler, A Gay Romp with
Adolf and Eva at Berchtesgaden with a flamboyant gay producer and horrendous
actors, they assume it’s a certain flop…
But things turn a little crazy when the sure flop turns out to be a hit with audiences.
Well-known Gold Coast director, choreographer and performer, Rhylee Nowell will be
directing the musical comedy.
Snapping on the heels of her last sell out productions, RENT and SHOUT she’s over
the moon to have the opportunity to direct such a masterpiece in musical history.
“As a director, it is always a joy to have the opportunity to work with new and notable
works.”
“I am relishing the experience of working not only with the wonderful words of Mel
Brooks, but also with such a talented and dedicated group of performers.
“ I am so proud to be able to bring to life this production of one of the funniest show in
musical theatre”
The Spotlight production of THE PRODUCERS: The New Mel Brooks Musical has
attracted over 40 performers, musicians and crew from all over the Gold Coast and
Brisbane, from the ages of 13 to 70
THE PRODUCERS plays at Spotlight Theatre August 9 to September 6.
Tickets are $28 for adults and $25 for Pensioners, Concessions and Children under 16.

The first was in Beenleigh last year, when the season sold out within
weeks.
“I’m really excited to be putting the show on for a second time,” she said.
“To be able to do the show in a theatre like Spotlight's, gives me the
opportunity to do things not only bigger and better, but to also add
something different to it.”
