@ The mission of the Boy Scouts of America
is to prepare young people to make
ethical and moral choices over their

of the Scout Oath and Law.

promoted in Scouting, the adult leader must
know what these values and ethics are.

@ What has scouting provided for you in your life?
@ Be ready to share with a small group.
@ You will have a maximum of 2 minutes to share.

@ Listener: Listen for the values and ethics that
appear in your speaker’s story. Please record
them on the 3x5 card to give to the speaker.

Building Character, Morals, Ethics and
instilling Values in Youth
@ Scouting is an opportunity to allow youth to grow
into adulthood.
@ Each youth is an individual and moves at his/her own
pace.
@ Scouting provides the opportunity to learn from
experience while the cost of making a mistake is
still small.
@ Boy Scouting enables development of the
individual through the group.
@ A Boy Scout is concerned with the individual and the
group, the self and others, the troop and the community.

Fostering a Safe Environment for
Taking Risks
@ We started this session working to build
relationships;
@ Did that allow you to feel more comfortable in this

@ Relationships are KEY
@ Scouting should be a safe haven for youth, in
which there is no fear of ridicule nor harassment.
@ After awhile, the Scouts themselves will control
the behavior and feel good about the difference.

these values hit the moral core of the scouts.
