SAE Project Letter and Agreement Dear Parents, Your student is about to begin a special assignment for their agricultural education class. I hope that they decide on a fun and exciting project that can keep their interest while enjoying working on it. This program is unique to agricultural education and is called a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). Each student will have an SAE program which may contain multiple SAE projects. For the purpose of this class, one SAE project from their entire SAE program will graded. There are several different kinds of SAEs that your student can complete. Please help your student decide on which type of project or projects will be best for them in relation to the time and money they are able to invest. The student will be required to complete a SAE record book and present to the class a summary of one of their individual projects at the end of the semester. A grading rubric is provided on the last page of the SAE Record book document. The student must document a minimum of __ hours of verifiable hands-on work on their project. When your child has decided on a project, please help them fill out the ‘SAE Agreement Form’ (on the opposite side of this handout) and return it to Mr. ___________ by _________________. You do not have to begin the project by this date but I want to know that the student has a plan of action. I am also available after school to make SAE home-visits to assist you and your child with their SAE projects. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to schedule an SAE home-visit appointment. Categories of SAE Projects (Choose only ONE): 1. Entrepreneurship (Ownership): Complete hands-on work on a project that relates to agriculture to develop their skills and experience. The student can provide a service or develop a product, invest in the supplies and equipment themselves or have them provided, and track their time and expenses and/or income. Wood working projects are always a good fit. 2. Placement: A placement SAE is where a student actually works for someone or for an agricultural business. Placement SAEs can be paid or unpaid hours. This could include working at a feed store, a nursery, a vet clinic, or on a farm or ranch. 3. Exploratory: Learn about agriculture and its related fields through research, interviewing industry professionals, job shadowing, or touring an agricultural operation such as a farm. This type of project allows the student to explore any aspect of agriculture that interests them. 4. Research: Conduct an experiment related to agriculture (much like a science fair project). Follow each step of the scientific method. Propose a hypothesis to explore and then record observations, time spent, and materials used in your record book. Effects of different fertilizers on a specific plant are an example of what the student could research and experiment with. All SAE Program Record Books will be due on ______________. The project can be 1 day late with a penalty of ___ points. All projects turned in later than this will not be accepted. Projects will not be accepted early. THIS PROJECT IS ____% OF THE STUDENT’S GRADE. Please contact me with any questions you may have. Instructor’s Name: Phone Number: SAE Program Agreement Form A.
